The Opportunity

Abbott Rapid Diagnostics is part of Abbott's Diagnostics family of businesses, bringing together exceptional teams of experts and industry leading technologies to support diagnostic testing which provides important information for treatment and management of diseases and other conditions.

The Supervisor, Process Engineering position is within our Infectious Disease Business Unit located in Scarborough, Maine. In this role, you will provide tactical leadership within the Engineering organization, ensuring engineering readiness to support manufacturing operations, production objectives, and product transfer activities. You will lead a team of engineers responsible for driving process improvements, supporting new product and equipment initiatives, and advancing operational excellence across the manufacturing environment.

As a key member of the organization, you will partner with cross-functional teams to ensure reliable, efficient, and compliant manufacturing processes while representing Engineering in internal and external business meetings. You will also play an important role in maintaining compliance within the company's Quality Management System and supporting continuous improvement initiatives that enhance quality, productivity, and operational performance. Through strong technical leadership, team development, and stakeholder engagement, you will help drive engineering excellence, process capability, and long-term business success.

What You'll Work On

  • Lead engineering activities related to process validation, equipment qualification, new product introduction, and manufacturing process development.
  • Drive the design, development, and implementation of new manufacturing processes and equipment to support business growth and product portfolio expansion.
  • Partner cross-functionally to improve manufacturing performance through scrap reduction, process optimization, and capability improvements.
  • Provide technical leadership in resolving production equipment issues and leading root cause investigations for process and product-related failures.
  • Support and lead Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA), continuous improvement initiatives, and equipment reliability programs.
  • Champion Lean Six Sigma methodologies, including DMAIC and DMADV, to improve operational performance and drive sustainable results.
  • Develop and implement Statistical Process Control (SPC) programs to monitor process performance, reduce variation, and improve yield.
  • Promote best practices in manufacturing engineering, controls engineering, equipment design, maintenance, and operational excellence.
  • Support proactive programs focused on Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), equipment reliability, facility contingency planning, machine safety, and emergency response preparedness.
  • Ensure compliance with FDA regulations, ISO requirements, Abbott quality standards, and all applicable policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate effectively with manufacturing, quality, maintenance, regulatory, and operations teams to achieve business objectives.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of engineering professionals to support plant goals and strategic initiatives.
  • Create a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage employee performance, development planning, and talent growth activities.
  • Participate in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and training team members.
  • Prioritize and assign engineering resources to support manufacturing, validation, and capital project activities.
  • Foster strong partnerships across departments while driving execution of engineering objectives and operational priorities.
  • Improve manufacturing efficiency, process capability, and equipment reliability.
  • Drive successful implementation of new technologies, processes, and capital projects.
  • Strengthen quality, compliance, and safety performance across operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (BS) in Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years' experience in Manufacturing Engineering or Design Engineering
  • 2+ years' direct experience in providing engineering support to production.
  • Prior experience managing equipment design and development as it relates to high-speed manufacturing processes, automation, fixtures, set-up reduction.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prior experience working in a company operating under ISO, FDA, or similar quality systems or regulations.
  • Experience in the application of lean six sigma principles and the DMAIC approach or a similar structured problem-solving system.
  • Experience with a mix of in-house development and contract management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cGMP's and FDA regulations as pertains to process engineering.
