What are Internship Documentation Analysts?

Internship Documentation Analysts are professionals, often interns themselves, who are responsible for organizing, reviewing, and maintaining documentation related to internship programs within a company or organization. Their duties typically include managing onboarding paperwork, ensuring compliance with company policies, tracking intern progress, and maintaining accurate records of training and evaluations. This role is essential in supporting HR teams by streamlining administrative processes and ensuring that all internship-related documents are up-to-date and accessible.

These skills ensure accurate record-keeping, efficient workflow, and compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.

Job description

Who we are
Founded in 1923, W. W. Norton is the oldest and largest independent and employee-owned publishing house, publishing works of Nobel laureates, master teachers, and Pulitzer Prize winners. For over a century, Norton has been dedicated to achieving a common goal: to bring to readers and students enduring fiction, nonfiction, and poetry, as well as high-quality textbooks and digital learning tools.
About the internship
W. W. Norton is looking for interns to participate in our twelve-week internship program. Our internship program provides participants with an engaging, supportive, and hands-on learning experience in publishing that includes educational lunch sessions and networking within the intern class. Your work if you become a Norton intern with the College History team may include the following:
  • Assisting with the preparation and review of chapter manuscripts for college history textbook families such as Give Me Liberty! (9e), The Webs of Humankind (3e), Worlds Together, Worlds Apart (8e), America (Full, Brief 14e, ELE 5e), and Western Civilizations (Brief 7e) among other forthcoming titles; assisting with digital media resources for the previously mentioned titles as well as These Truths (2e) and a World History primary source collection. The intern may also work on sociology, cultural anthropology, and philosophy titles.
  • Reviewing and identifying errors in chapters during manuscript and production stages
  • Organizing and updating images and maps in art logs and art manuscripts for new editions
  • Preparing permission forms for primary source materials to be reprinted in our texts
  • Assisting with digital media resources for InQuizitive, Norton's award winning, easy-to-use adaptive learning tool
  • Reviewing, editing, and formatting digital documents, eBook interactives, lecture PowerPoints, instructor's manuals, and test banks
  • Cataloging and organizing digital assets, including videos, flashcards, and primary source documents
  • Analyzing data from professor review programs and drafting memos on survey results
  • Day-to-day office duties, file retrieval, and other miscellaneous administrative tasks (e.g., filing/scanning/organizing documents)

Experience and Skills
Why you'll be a great fit
We are excited to add interns who bring diverse perspectives to Norton. The ideal candidate is curious, hardworking, and eager to learn more about the different facets of publishing. Here are some skills and qualities we look for in candidates:
  • You seek a career in textbook publishing.
  • You have a demonstrated interest in history.
  • You are interested in digital humanities, eBooks, and educational materials.
  • You are eager to improve your verbal and written communication skills.
  • You enjoy collaborating and working in a group to solve challenges.
  • You have a passion for learning and ideas.
  • You have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • You enjoy detail-oriented work.
  • You are a college junior, senior, recent graduate, or someone looking to make a career change.

Internship details
  • Interns are paid $17 per hour, subject to applicable law, and work a maximum of 20 hours weekly.
  • Internship period is twelve weeks from 9/14/2026-12/4/2026.
  • Our workday is 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time; specific work hours are flexible to accommodate an intern's schedule.
  • For interns who reside within commuting distance of the office, this internship will be in-person in our Manhattan offices; those in other locations will work remotely.
