Internship Stipend: The hourly pay rate range for this position is $36 - $46
ONSITE: This role requires the Intern to work from our San Jose, California office during the duration of the Internship.
At SiMa.ai, we are building the infrastructure that powers the next generation of Physical AI. Our platform, SiMa Modalix, enables developers and enterprises to deploy AI applications efficiently across robotics, drones, industrial automation, and intelligent edge systems.
We are looking for highly motivated students or recent graduates who are passionate about Physical AI, edge application development, AI pipelines, and developer tools.
Role Overview: As a Palette Neat Application Development Intern, you will work hands-on with SiMa.ai's Palette and Neat software stack to build real-world Physical AI applications targeting the SiMa Modalix platform. You will help create, validate, and optimize end-to-end AI applications that combine video, sensors, machine learning models, and multi-processor execution.
This role is ideal for candidates who enjoy building practical AI applications, working close to hardware, and turning models into deployable edge solutions.
You will:
  • Develop end-to-end Physical AI applications using Palette Neat, including video analytics, robotics, industrial inspection, and intelligent camera pipelines.
  • Build application examples that combine AI models, pre-processing, post-processing, media pipelines, and deployment workflows.
  • Work with Python, C++, GStreamer, and SiMa.ai tools to prototype and validate real-time AI applications on Modalix hardware.
  • Integrate neural network models into application pipelines and evaluate performance, latency, throughput, and correctness on edge devices.
  • Help create reference applications, demos, and developer-facing examples that show how customers can use Palette Neat effectively.
  • Debug application issues related to model integration, data formats, memory movement, runtime execution, and edge performance.
  • Work closely with Product and Engineering teams to improve developer experience, API usability, documentation, and application workflows.

Required Qualifications:
  • Recently graduated or nearing graduation, such as a rising senior, with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.
  • Strong programming skills in Python.
  • Familiarity with C++ and Linux development environments.
  • Basic understanding of machine learning models, computer vision, and AI application pipelines.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Recommended / Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with OpenCV, GStreamer, or video processing pipelines.
  • Experience with PyTorch, ONNX, TensorFlow, or similar AI frameworks.
  • Hands-on exposure to embedded systems, robotics, cameras, or edge AI platforms.
  • Familiarity with Docker, Git, CI/CD workflows, or Linux command-line tools.
  • Interest in Physical AI, real-time AI applications, and developer-facing tools.
