Job Summary:
The Health Science Faculty at West Texas A&M University is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction, supporting student success, and contributing to the growth and development of the Health Science Department. This position involves teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses, developing and revising curriculum, and engaging in service activities that support the mission of the university and the healthcare workforce needs of the Texas Panhandle.
The instructor will provide engaging, evidence-based instruction in areas such as population health, healthcare systems, health promotion, and rural health, utilizing a variety of instructional modalities including face-to-face, hybrid, and online delivery. The role includes mentoring students, advising on academic and career pathways, and facilitating experiential learning opportunities such as internships, clinical placements, and community-based projects.
In addition to teaching responsibilities, the Health Science Instructor will participate in program assessment, accreditation activities, and continuous quality improvement initiatives. The position requires collaboration with faculty, staff, and community partners to strengthen healthcare education pathways and expand workforce development efforts.
The ideal candidate demonstrates a commitment to academic excellence, student-centered learning, and service to rural and underserved populations. This role supports the broader mission of West Texas A&M University by preparing graduates who are equipped to meet the evolving healthcare needs of the region and beyond.
Work Performed:
The Health Science Faculty at West Texas A&M University performs a broad range of teaching, service, and program development responsibilities that support the mission of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences and the University's commitment to preparing healthcare professionals who improve the health and well-being of the Texas Panhandle and beyond. The College emphasizes developing exemplary practitioners through education, research, service, outreach, and community partnerships.
Primary responsibilities include planning, developing, and delivering undergraduate and graduate Health Science courses using evidence-based instructional practices in face-to-face, hybrid, and online learning environments. The instructor evaluates student learning outcomes, maintains academic records, provides academic advising and mentoring, and fosters an inclusive learning environment that promotes student engagement, retention, persistence, and graduation.
Necessary Qualifications:
  • Masters or Doctoral degree (PhD, DrPH, EdD, DNP, or related) in Health Sciences, Public Health, Healthcare Administration, or a closely related field from an accredited institution
  • Demonstrated teaching effectiveness in undergraduate and/or graduate health science courses (face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online formats)
  • Evidence of expertise in one or more relevant areas such as population health, rural health, healthcare systems, epidemiology, health promotion, or health policy
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage diverse student populations
  • Commitment to student success, mentorship, and experiential learning (internships, clinicals, or applied practice experiences)
  • Ability to contribute to curriculum development, program assessment, and continuous quality improvement
  • Demonstrated organizational and leadership skills to support program growth and community engagement
  • Eligibility for appointment consistent with university and system policies

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Doctoral degree (PhD, DrPH, EdD, DNP, or related) in Health Sciences.
  • Experience teaching in a rural-serving or regional university environment with a demonstrated record of scholarship, research, or creative activity appropriate to rank (publications, presentations, grant activity)
  • Experience with accreditation processes (e.g., program review, outcomes assessment, compliance reporting)
  • Established relationships or experience working with healthcare systems, public health agencies, or community organizations
  • Experience securing or participating in grant-funded projects or workforce development initiatives
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration experience across health-related programs
  • Experience with student advising, retention initiatives, and career placement support
  • Professional certification or licensure relevant to the discipline (e.g., CHES, MHA, RN, APRN, etc.), if applicable
