Job description

Title: Manufacturing and Digital Process Engineer

Reports to: Production Technology Team Leader 

Location: DMG MORI Manufacturing USA in Davis, CA

Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm / Core Business Hours

Classification: Exempt

Travel: 0%-5%

This position has access to equipment and/or technology that is subject to U.S. export control restrictions. Hiring by DMG MORI must be made in compliance with applicable regulations.

DMG MORI is one of the largest manufacturers of cutting machine tools and a manufacturer of CNC-controlled lathes and milling machines. Our products include machines, industrial services, software, and energy solutions.

As a Manufacturing and Digital Process Engineer, you will partner with production, assembly, and quality teams to digitize workflows, build and maintain digital work instructions, and drive productivity improvements using data and low-code tools. You will apply engineering principles while working hands-on with CNC machine tool production, operation, and assembly.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Design, build, and update production processes and digital work instructions in the Tulip platform (or similar) to manufacturing processes.
  • Develop low-code apps and automated workflows using Microsoft PowerApps, Power Automate, and dashboards in Power BI to streamline production operations.
  • Create and maintain production databases/dashboards; integrate data from various production systems to provide real-time visibility to teams.
  • Analyze productivity and process data using Excel and others solutions to identify opportunities, measure improvements, and sustain results.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with assembly, purchasing, machining, and quality to enable new projects, pilot digital solutions, and scale successful practices.
  • Document standard work, support change management, and train operators/technicians on new digital tools and processes.
  • Apply hands-on engineering and troubleshooting skills with mechanical systems to support CNC machine production and assembly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, Industrial Engineering—or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience (internship, co-op, or 1–3+ years) in manufacturing, production technology, mechanical engineering, research assistant, or related roles.
  • Proven hands-on experience with mechanical systems and comfort in a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with at least one of the following: Tulip or similar MES, low-code app development (PowerApps/Power Automate), or data analysis in Excel/Power BI.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing digital work instructions and workflow apps in Tulip.
  • Power Platform development (PowerApps/Power Automate) and dashboarding in Power BI.
  • Web design/database modeling; ability to build simple web UIs or relational schemas.
  • Ability to design, model, and draft parts/assemblies using 3D CAD (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor).
  • Lean/Continuous Improvement methods (5S, Kaizen, value stream mapping).
  • Exposure to CNC machining or machine tool assembly.

Work Environment

General office environment will be experienced. Periodic: Manufacturing environment (assembly, machining, quality control facility) at DMG MORI Manufacturing. Exposure to possible hazards may include noise, electricity, chemicals, heavy equipment, and other automated and manual machinery.

Physical Demands:

Frequent: standing, walking, bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, and pulling; repetitive foot, leg, hand, arm, shoulder, and torso movements.

Periodic: operating power equipment; sitting at a desk; utilizing computers and phones.
