As a General Surgeon within the Army's healthcare team, you will be engaged in cutting-edge medical and surgical practices, performing a diverse array of procedures. The advancements spearheaded by the Army Medical Department enhance patient outcomes and transform medical practices, ranging from pioneering regenerative medicine to creating 3-D anatomical models that aid in surgical planning both before and after operations. Your responsibilities will include examining patients, diagnosing conditions, consulting on treatment plans, and conducting surgeries for soldiers, retirees, and their families. Additionally, you will have the chance to participate in ongoing education programs, specialized training, seminars, and conferences to expand your knowledge and collaborate with fellow surgeons for the benefit of your patients and the Army.

Eligibility Criteria
  • A Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree from an accredited U.S. medical or osteopathic school is required.
  • International graduates may apply if they possess a permanent certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates.
  • A current medical license to practice in the United States, District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico is necessary.
  • Eligibility for board certification is required.
  • Completion of at least one year in an approved Graduate Medical Education (GME) internship is mandatory.
  • Completion of a general surgery training program is essential.
  • U.S. citizenship is required for those serving on Active Duty.
  • A permanent U.S. residency is necessary for Army Reserve candidates.
