Job Summary

As a Landscape Intern with EMI, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and contribute to various aspects of the landscape industry including but not limited to maintenance, landscape installation, landscape design, sales, accounting, safety, and human resources. Under the guidance of experienced professionals, you will assist in project planning, and execution as well as learn about the principles and practices of landscape design, maintenance, and installation.

Our goal is to equip our interns with a comprehensive understanding of the diverse aspects and career opportunities within the industry. Interns are assigned mentors to ensure they receive the best education and development assistance possible.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in Project Planning: Work with landscape designers and project managers to contribute ideas and support the planning phase of landscape projects.
  2. On-Site Assistance: Provide on-site support during landscape maintenance and installations, assisting with tasks such as planting, grading, and hardscape construction.
  3. Documentation: Maintain accurate records of project activities, including notes, measurements, and photographs. Assist in the preparation of project reports.
  4. Plant Identification and Care: Learn to identify various plant species and assist in their proper care and maintenance during the installation phase.
  5. Quality Assurance: Assist in monitoring and ensuring that landscape installations meet design specifications and quality standards.
  6. Collaboration: Collaborate with team members and contribute to a positive and productive work environment.
  7. Learning and Development: Actively engage in learning opportunities to enhance knowledge of landscape design, plant materials, and industry best practices.
  8. Client Interaction: Shadow and assist in client interactions, as appropriate, to understand client communication and relationship-building.

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, Construction or a related field.
  • Strong interest in landscaping and a desire to learn about the industry.
  • Basic knowledge of plant materials and landscape design principles (preferred).
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment and perform physical tasks associated with landscape work.

Work Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions, wet or humid conditions, working near moving mechanical parts, and fumes or airborne particles
  • Occasionally exposed to vibration, toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electric shock
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually loud

Physical Requirements

  • Often required to lift heavy materials exceeding 50lbs
  • Required to stand, kneel, crouch, crawl, stoop and bend for long periods
  • Require to use hands and reach with arms
  • Frequent speaking
  • The work may be either indoors or outdoors in areas that are dusty, dirty, in the rain and muddy
