OVERVIEW:

JOB SUMMARY:
The Department of Communication invites applications for a Lecturer of Communication. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in digital communication, media production, and emerging communication technologies while fostering students' creative, technical, and critical thinking skills. Responsibilities include developing and delivering engaging, hands-on instruction in areas such as digital storytelling, audio production, video production, multimedia content creation, and visual communication. The lecturer will be expected to integrate current industry practices and digital technologies into the curriculum, mentor students in applied media projects, assess student learning, and contribute to curriculum development and program initiatives. Candidates should possess demonstrated expertise in multiple forms of digital media production, including audio and visual content creation, along with a commitment to student success, inclusive teaching practices, and collaborative engagement within the department and university community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will:
  • offer dynamic, engaging, and student-centered pedagogy utilizing up-to-date expertise digital media.
  • teach a normal load, as prescribed in the CBA. Lecturers devote 80% time to teaching and advising and 20% to service.
  • The minimum annual credit load of those employed in Lecturer/Senior/Full Lecturer positions is 24 - 28 credits per academic year depending on the department needs.
  • Will be a contributing member of departmental and university required meetings and initiatives including departmental meetings events, course and curriculum development, and university-wide initiatives.

EDUCATION:
  • A master's degree or equivalent degree in Media, Journalism, Mass Communication, or closely related field required.

EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience teaching digital communication, media production, or related courses at the college or university level.
  • Professional experience in one or more areas of digital media, including audio production, podcasting, video production, digital storytelling, multimedia journalism, social media content creation, or visual communication.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard media production software and technologies, such as Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere Pro, Audition, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects), audio editing platforms, and content management systems.
  • Experience planning, producing, and editing audio and video projects from concept development through post-production.
  • Knowledge of emerging digital communication trends, including social media strategy, digital branding, audience engagement, artificial intelligence applications, and multimedia storytelling.
  • Experience supervising student media projects, internships, or experiential learning opportunities.
  • Strong written, oral, and visual communication skills.
  • A commitment to inclusive pedagogy, student mentorship, and creating engaging learning environments for students with diverse backgrounds and career interests.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development, creative activity, scholarly engagement, or industry experience in digital communication and media production.

Preferred candidates will have experience working with student media organizations, managing media production facilities or equipment, and developing curricula that integrate both technical media skills and critical analysis of digital communication practices.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Moderate lifting up to 20 pounds as frequently as needed to move objects; dexterity to write and manipulate computer keyboard and mouse; ability to hear and speak clearly; and body mobility to stoop, kneel, bend and reach.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a university campus environment. All classes are currently taught in-person and faculty are required to be present on campus to teach their courses. The employee is subject to inside environmental conditions and protection from weather conditions.
