Job description

As a Co-Op Student in the Powerpack Applications team at Nexteer Automotive, you will gain hands-on experience supporting product development and testing of advanced automotive systems. You will collaborate directly with engineering professionals and contribute to real-world projects that enhance your technical, analytical, and professional skills.
  • Support Product Engineers with daily tasks, including design reviews, troubleshooting, and documentation.
  • Conduct tests on Electric Power Steering (EPS) Circuit Card Assemblies and Motors following established procedures and safety standards.
  • Analyze and summarize controller test data, preparing clear and concise presentations for technical audiences.
  • Present findings and recommendations to the Powerpack Engineering team.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of EPS Controllers and related systems to effectively perform tests and assist engineers.
  • Build professional communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and reporting technical information.
  • Enhance electrical design skills through circuit and schematic analysis, as well as troubleshooting real-world issues.
  • Strengthen networking abilities by collaborating with engineers, technicians, and other co-op students to achieve project goals.
  • Gain exposure to industry-standard tools and processes, such as CAD software, electrical simulation programs, and test equipment.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and contribute ideas for process and product optimization.

Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled at a four-year university near Saginaw, pursuing a degree in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred).
  • Able to work 20-32 hours per week during Fall and Winter semesters, and up to 40 hours per week in the summer.
  • Maintains a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher on a 4.0 scale; must be a full-time student (12+ credits) during Fall and Winter semesters.
  • Hands-on experience in electrical or mechanical systems, including lab work, projects, or internships, is highly desirable.
  • General competency in mechanical, electronics, or thermal systems is preferred.
  • Background or coursework in automotive engineering (steering, suspension) is a plus.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to apply engineering principles to practical challenges.
  • Strong organizational and documentation abilities, including maintaining accurate records and reports.
  • Creativity and adaptability in approaching new tasks and solving technical problems.
  • Self-motivation and initiative to learn new skills and contribute independently.
  • Proficiency with common engineering software (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and CAD tools such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD) is preferred.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills to work effectively in a diverse environment.
  • Must have the right to work in the United States and not require current or future sponsorship.
