Job description

Position Overview

The Queer Self Care Mental Therapy Center is seeking a dedicated and qualified Trauma-Informed Mental Health Counselor to join our remote team. This full-time position is designed for licensed mental health professionals who are committed to fostering healing and resilience among individuals affected by trauma. With a focus on evidence-based methodologies, you will play a crucial role in helping patients navigate their mental health journeys safely and effectively.

About the Organization

At Queer Self Care Mental Therapy Center, we are devoted to creating a compassionate space dedicated to LGBTQ+ individuals and trauma survivors. Our commitment to inclusivity and understanding drives our mission to offer specialized mental health care aimed at treating conditions like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), complex trauma, and various dissociative disorders. Located in Ontario, California, we are proud to serve our community through outpatient services that prioritize patient comfort and empowerment.

Work Environment

This position is primarily remote, allowing you to provide care from a supportive environment of your choosing while also maintaining access to our outpatient office for collaboration and team meetings. Our work culture emphasizes flexibility, professionalism, and a strong connection among team members to deliver the best patient care possible.

Key Responsibilities

As a Trauma-Informed Mental Health Counselor, your daily activities will include:

  • Conducting thorough trauma-informed mental health evaluations to assess the trauma histories of patients and ensuring an accurate and empathetic understanding of their backgrounds.
  • Developing and implementing personalized treatment plans focusing on trauma recovery, which may include methods like Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT).
  • Facilitating one-on-one and group therapy sessions that encourage patients to unpack their trauma experiences, learn coping strategies, and foster a supportive community for recovery.
  • Collaborating closely with psychiatrists and other healthcare professionals to provide holistic care and ensure a seamless treatment plan for each patient.
  • Offering crisis intervention services during trauma-related emergencies and providing immediate support to affected individuals.
  • Educating patients and their families about trauma responses and available resources to promote healing and growth.
  • Maintaining meticulous and secure documentation in compliance with legal and ethical standards while leveraging electronic health record (EHR) systems for efficiency and accuracy.
  • Participating in regular case consultations and team meetings to enhance professional development and share insights with colleagues.
  • Staying informed of the latest advancements in trauma treatment to continually enhance your skills and the care provided.
Patient Population / Client Focus

You will primarily work with individuals who have experienced trauma, many of whom identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community. Imparting understanding and support to these patients is crucial, as they often face unique barriers in accessing mental health care. Your approach will emphasize affirming their identities and guiding them through recovery with sensitivity and compassion.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • A master's or doctorate degree in disciplines such as social work, mental health counseling, marriage and family therapy, or psychology from an accredited institution.
  • A current and valid state license as an LCSW, LPCC, LMFT, or Psychologist.
  • At least two years of post-licensure experience in mental health counseling is preferred.
  • A deep understanding of trauma-related disorders and trauma-informed care principles.
  • Outstanding communication skills, alongside a calm and supportive demeanor in high-stress situations.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) use and familiarity with various digital tools and applications.
  • An eagerness to collaborate within a multidisciplinary environment, fostering a team-oriented approach to patient care.
Preferred Experience

While a minimum of two years of post-licensure experience is encouraged, we value the essence of passion and dedication to trauma work, which may be demonstrated through volunteer experiences, internships, or relevant work in supportive environments. The ability to apply innovative therapeutic practices reflecting the latest trauma research will be seen as a strong asset.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary for this position ranges from USD 90,000 to 105,000 annually, reflective of the candidate’s experience and qualifications. In addition to competitive compensation, we provide a comprehensive benefits package, which includes:

  • Health care coverage.
  • A retirement savings plan with employer matching contributions.
  • Generous paid time off (PTO) and holiday pay.
  • Liability insurance coverage for professional protection.
  • Opportunities for ongoing education and specialized professional development.
  • Prospects for career advancement within our organization as we continue to grow and adapt to the community's needs.
  • A nurturing and collaborative work environment that values every team member's contributions.
