Job description

POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Research Assistant VI - Temporary

Salary Grade 12: $48,425.00 - $57,870.00


The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated candidate to fill a temporary full time Research Assistant VI position in the Molecular Genetics Laboratory to join the Fragile X team. The successful candidate will focus on laboratory benchwork and data collection. This role requires a candidate with strong foundational knowledge in molecular biology techniques, a high level of attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively within a fast-paced research environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in a laboratory setting and a passion for clinical research and patient-centered care. This is a temporary grant-based position for 40 hours per week.


Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Perform molecular biology procedures including DNA extraction, PCR, and Capillary Electrophoresis.
  • Assist in the collection and processing of research samples according to established laboratory protocols.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of experimental data and findings.
  • Prepare reagents and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure a sterile and functional workspace.
  • Collaborate with the research team to analyze data and prepare findings for presentation or publication.
  • Assist in the organization of laboratory inventory and maintain rigorous quality control standards.
  • Support the Fragile X study team with other project-related tasks as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of 60 College credits pursuing a degree in Biology, Biostatistics, or a related field
  • 3 months of direct experience in a research laboratory setting, specifically with hands-on knowledge.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Biology candidate with a strong GPA (3.8+ preferred) and a pre-health/medical track focus.
  • Previous research internship experience specifically focused on Fragile X Syndrome.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills, as evidenced by campus involvement or honors society membership.
  • Demonstrated ability to collect and manage data with high precision and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to present technical findings clearly.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word for data entry and documentation.
