Job Summary:

The Senior Embedded Software Engineer is a key contributor to the development of advanced sensing technologies within the Sensing & Power Systems (SPS) business unit at Crane Aerospace & Electronics. SPS provides essential sensing capabilities, such as pressure, proximity, air data, and fluid measurement, that support critical aircraft functions across commercial and military platforms. These products must perform reliably in demanding aerospace environments, requiring robust, certifiable embedded software aligned with industry standards. In this role, you will lead software architecture, implementation, integration, and verification activities that directly influence product performance, system safety, and long-term program success.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and optimize embedded software in C and C++ for SPS sensing products.
  • Implement firmware for signal conditioning, sensor calibration, filtering algorithms, data acquisition, and mixed-signal hardware control.
  • Use additional languages and tools including Python, Assembly, and DXL.
  • Create and integrate SCADE model-based designs and support auto-generated code workflows.
  • Perform requirements analysis, decomposition, and traceability using IBM DOORS.
  • Use IBM EWM for configuration management, change control, and workflow tracking.
  • Conduct static and dynamic analysis, including structural coverage, using LDRA + TQD.
  • Support certification activities consistent with DO178C, including documentation development in Adobe FrameMaker.
  • Debug hardware/software interactions using debuggers, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
  • Collaborate with Systems, Hardware, Test, Quality, and Manufacturing teams throughout development and verification cycles.
  • Participate in peer reviews of requirements, design, code, and test artifacts.
  • Lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions for software-related issues.
  • Mentor early-career engineers and provide technical leadership within Integrated Product Teams (IPTs).
  • Support continuous improvement of engineering practices, tools, and processes.

Eligibility Requirement:This position may require access to Controlled Data or Information. Where the position requires such access only US Persons will be considered. As a US Department of Defense contractor, we are bound by International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Minimum Qualifications

Experience:

  • 5-7+ years of embedded software development experience in a real-time or safety-critical environment.
  • Experience working with sensor-based or mixed-signal embedded systems preferred.

Education/Certification:

  • BA or BS Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
  • Master's degree preferred.

Knowledge:

  • Strong experience with embedded software development aligned with DO178C or similar safety-critical standards.
  • Proficiency in C and C++ for embedded systems.
  • Experience with communication interfaces such as ARINC 429, RS232, CAN, AFDX.
  • Knowledge of model-based development (SCADE) and requirements simulation.
  • Familiarity with simulators, emulators, and embedded debugging tools.
  • Experience with structural coverage analysis tools such as LDRA.
  • Experience with scripting languages (Python, DXL, etc.).

Skills/Abilities:

  • Experience using requirements management tools (DOORS).
  • Experience with configuration and change management tools (IBM EWM).
  • Ability to analyze requirements, design, and code for compliance with aerospace standards.
  • Strong problemsolving, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to mentor and support early-career engineers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Engineering.
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or other regulated safety-critical industries.
  • Experience with SPS sensing products or similar embedded sensor technologies.
  • Experience using Adobe FrameMaker for certification documentation.
  • Familiarity with Assembly, ADA, and other specialized embedded languages. Experience supporting DO178C audits, reviews, and certification processes.

Salary range: $132,548.90 - $162,437.40. Several factors contribute to actual salary, including experience in a similar role or performing comparable job responsibilities, skills, training, and other qualifications. Some roles may be eligible for participation in performance-based bonus programs.
