An Internship Data Storage role typically involves assisting with the management, organization, and security of digital data within a company. Interns in this position may work with databases, cloud storage platforms, and backup systems, helping to ensure data is stored efficiently and securely. Responsibilities often include supporting data migration projects, monitoring storage usage, and helping to troubleshoot issues. This role provides valuable hands-on experience with modern data storage technologies and practices, making it ideal for students interested in IT infrastructure or data management.

What types of projects do interns typically work on during a data storage internship?

During a Data Storage internship, interns usually participate in projects such as optimizing database performance, assisting with data migration between storage systems, and supporting the implementation of backup and disaster recovery processes. Interns may also help monitor storage usage, analyze data access patterns, and contribute to documentation for best practices. Job description

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we're the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain - and we're looking for talented people who want to help.
You'll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You'll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you'll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.
The Network Lifecycle Management (NLM) organization is responsible for scaling and maintaining Amazon's global network capacity. Within NLM, the Cabling Services team owns the planning, ordering, and fulfillment of network cabling projects. This includes building software to ensure predictable, on-time delivery of materials to deliver network capacity.
Key job responsibilities
As a Software Development Engineer on this team, you will take ownership of substantial parts of complex, large-scale problems with real impact on Amazon's infrastructure. A key focus of your work will be developing data center digital twin automation to support automated fiber infrastructure design that optimizes material orders and resource allocation at scale. You will have the autonomy to define your own direction, shape technical solutions, and drive meaningful outcomes across the cabling lifecycle.
We are a collaborative team that values continuous learning, technical curiosity, and a culture of shared growth. We run regular knowledge-sharing sessions and offer opportunities to explore emerging technologies.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
