Job description

Overview

The Application Engineer is responsible for the end-to-end ownership, support, enhancement, and operational stability of assigned Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) applications and associated data integrations. This role partners closely with business stakeholders, vendors, and technology teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and secure solutions that meet organizational needs.
The ideal candidate possesses strong application support, cloud, and data engineering experience, along with a passion for automation and continuous improvement. This individual will be responsible for maintaining production systems, managing data pipelines, supporting Agile delivery teams, and leveraging emerging technologies, including Generative AI, to improve operational efficiency and business outcomes.
Responsibilities
  • Own assigned COTS applications throughout their lifecycle.
  • Serve as the primary technical contact for application support and enhancements.
  • Build, maintain, and support enterprise data pipelines and integrations.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot application and data pipeline performance.
  • Support applications hosted within Microsoft Azure environments.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to gather and refine requirements.
  • Coordinate with vendors, infrastructure, security, and support teams.
  • Investigate and resolve production incidents and operational issues.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain automation solutions to improve efficiency.
  • Create and maintain scripts using Python, Shell, PowerShell, Perl, or similar technologies.
  • Design, implement, and support automated testing frameworks.
  • Participate in application upgrades, releases, and change management activities.
  • Contribute to Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, standups, and retrospectives.
  • Document technical solutions, support procedures, and operational runbooks.
  • Ensure compliance with security, governance, and operational standards.
  • Leverage AI-assisted tools and automation capabilities to improve development, testing, and support processes.
  • Identify opportunities to apply Generative AI and intelligent automation to business and technology workflows.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5-7 years of overall experience in application or software development engineering
  • 3-5 years of experience supporting and owning enterprise applications.
  • Experience managing and supporting COTS applications in a production environment.
  • Experience building, maintaining, and troubleshooting data pipelines and integrations.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Azure cloud services.
  • Experience with programming languages and development tools, such as SQL, Python, JavaScript, and HTML/CSS, with exposure to modern frameworks and libraries.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as PowerShell, Shell, Bash, or Perl.
  • Experience implementing automation solutions and testing frameworks.
  • Experience supporting production incidents, troubleshooting issues, and performing root cause analysis.
  • Working knowledge of Agile methodologies and software development lifecycle practices.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience within financial services, banking, accounting, risk management, or financial technology environments.
  • Experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Azure Storage, and related Azure services.
  • Experience supporting enterprise data, analytics, reporting, or business intelligence solutions.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Experience with ServiceNow, Azure DevOps, Jira, or similar platforms.
  • Experience working with third-party software vendors.
  • Experience utilizing Microsoft Copilot, Azure AI Services, OpenAI technologies, or similar Generative AI platforms.
  • Understanding of Responsible AI principles, AI governance, and secure enterprise AI adoption.
  • Experience implementing AI-enabled automation, testing, or operational support solutions.
