ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The NCMEC Child Sex Trafficking RST provides assistance to child welfare professionals on cases of children reporting missing from care who are likely victims of child sex trafficking. Support includes guidance on the development of trauma-informed engagement and recovery plans with a focus on safety planning, youth-centered engagement, stages of change, and coaching on expected trauma reactions and strength-based responses. Interns will fulfill one or more of the following duties with the potential to take on additional responsibilities:

  • Shadow RST Resource Specialist to learn about RST’s process for supporting child welfare and law enforcement in recovery planning
  • Research and compile service referrals at the request of Resource Specialists to assist in meeting the needs of child victims
  • Assist with maintaining a national resource directory on child sex trafficking resources
  • Review and compile research on youth engagement and help with developing resources for various professional audiences
  • Other duties as assigned
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
  • Completed at least 2 years of college with a focus on social work, psychology, counseling, criminal justice, or a related field
  • Ideal candidates include a specific focus on children and youth and/or system-involved youth 
  • Minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4-point scale (3.5 GPA or higher preferred)
  • Knowledge on child sex trafficking is not required but preferred
  • Ability to perform searches in open source and social media platforms
  • Excellent organizational skills, report writing, and time management skills
  • Display quality control and high standards when performing data entry       
  • MUST be able to use discretion while handling and maintaining the confidentiality of highly sensitive information
  • Ability to work independently
SALARY:

Although internships are unpaid positions, each intern will have the opportunity to acquire knowledge and hands-on experience in the position of his/her choosing and will receive academic credit through an approved program at his/her college or as a volunteer.

HOURS:

This is a HYBRID internship. The Analytical Services Intern is required to work a minimum of 20 hours per week, between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M., Monday through Friday, during Fall, Spring, or Summer semesters (based on necessity and the intern’s performance there may be the opportunity to work over the course of multiple semesters/seasons).  Interns will be excused to attend internship program functions and for academic holidays or vacations.
