Overview
We are seeking hands-on Engineering Interns to support shop operations work focused on industrial turbocharger systems. This role emphasizes real-world experience in manufacturing, mechanical systems, and continuous improvement-not a desk-only internship.
Interns will contribute to shop organization (5S), assist with turbocharger rebuild processes, and support alongside experienced technicians and engineers. This aligns with modern manufacturing internships where interns actively improve safety, efficiency, and workflow on the shop floor.
Reporting Line: Workshop Supervisor
Program Structure & Responsibilities
Phase 1: Shop Organization & 5S
  • Conduct shop audit and implement 5S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain)
  • Establish tool organization systems and permanent storage locations
  • Label inventory, toolboxes, and work areas
  • Support epoxy flooring and shop layout improvements
  • Organize storage areas and digitize tool inventory
  • Maintain shop cleanliness and safety standards
  • Complete initial safety training and CPR/First Aid certification

Phase 2: Turbocharger Shop Support
  • Assist with disassembly, inspection, cleaning, and reassembly support
  • Shadow technicians and learn rebuild processes
  • Support workflow, tooling, and layout improvements
  • Continue shop organization and cleanliness initiatives
  • Complete additional technical and safety training
  • Follow safety procedures including Lockout/Tagout, rigging, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements

Your Responsibilities
  • Support shop efficiency, organization, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized workspace
  • Assist technicians and engineers with mechanical and service tasks
  • Participate in hands-on shop work
  • Follow all safety protocols and PPE requirements

Your Background
  • Pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or related Engineering field
  • Strong interest in hands-on, mechanical work
  • Ability to work in shop environment
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and initiative
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and work in a team setting

Work Environment
  • Workshop only
  • Exposure to industrial equipment and conditions
  • Required PPE: steel-toe boots and safety glasses (at all times in shop to be provided)
  • Additional PPE provided as needed
