Position Summary

The Project Manager I provides oversight and coordination of projects/programs with medium to large scopes and/or complexity. They provide leadership to project and program team members, which may include directly managing/supervising others. They are responsible for communication with internal and external project stakeholders and the overall success of project execution.

Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities

Project Management

  • Oversees and coordinates all aspects of project execution and client experience.
  • Develops project proposals, contracts and project budgets; may support proposal development on larger/more complex projects.
  • Plans and coordinates project deliverables.
  • Manages client service and project communication.ย 
  • Monitors and ensure adherence to budgets and financial expectations.
  • Responsible for overall project performance.
  • Contributes to efforts to improve performance and ensure consistent adherence to applicable quality standards.
  • Manages and maintains relationships with project sub-consultants.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Program Management

(where applicable)

  • Develops program contracts, project fee matrices and creates specific program project fees; may support these activities on other projects as needed.
  • Manages client service and communication for specific program projects and may support program level communication.
  • Oversees and coordinates all aspects of specific program scheduling and program project execution.

Quality

  • Monitors project quality expectations.
  • Ensures deliverables meet project objectives and quality expectations.ย 
  • Understands the scope of work and fees to mitigate risk throughout the project life cycle.
  • Provides technical insight on project production when applicable.
  • Recognizes project conflicts and proactively works with stakeholders to resolve.

Client Experience

  • Serves as the primary project/program contact and brand ambassador.
  • Maintains regular communication with clients and sub-consultants to ensure satisfaction with the project process and engineering work product, and that client views are managed toward the best solution.

  • Partners with sector and practice leadership to support business development strategies within their sector or practice.

  • Directs the activities of project/program team members and oversees Project Coordinators as needed.
  • Proactively advises, coaches and mentors less experienced Designers, Engineers, or Project Managers, providing oversight or guidance on project execution and communication.
  • Makes recommendations to practice, operations and/or technical leadership to align training, development and mentoring of project staff.

Required Education, Experience, Licenses & Technical Competencies

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in engineering, construction management, science, technology, or business preferred. 4 years of relevant experience within the AEC or Professional Services industry will be considered in lieu of requisite education.
  • 8 years of relevant experience required, including a minimum of 4 years cumulative of project management experience.
  • Proficiency in project management standards and execution required.
  • Intermediate knowledge and understanding of building design and construction principles required.
  • Project management certification preferred.
  • PE license recommended.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in all core competencies as described and characterized in the job description.
  • Self-starter with the ability to influence and motivate others to achieve goals.
  • Excellent track record of effective collaboration, communication and organization skills.

Physical & Other Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
