Our unique business model, combined with our dedication to delivering the highest quality products, enables team members to contribute in a larger capacity than is possible in typical positions.
Position Description
The Data Center Technician supports Applied Medical's enterprise infrastructure operations by installing, configuring, monitoring, and maintaining hardware and software systems across corporate data centers and distributed facilities. This role works within a collaborative IT team to ensure uptime, security compliance, and operational health across cloud-based and on-premise environments. The Data Center Technician partners with engineers and cross-functional teams to implement resilient infrastructure solutions, respond to incidents, and contribute to the long-term reliability of Applied Medical's technology environment. Professionals with backgrounds in data center operations, enterprise infrastructure support, network administration, systems administration, or information technology support will find this role a strong fit.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, rack, and stack hardware and software associated with enterprise infrastructure systems across corporate data centers, Main Distribution Frames (MDFs), Intermediate Distribution Frames (IDFs), and Minimum Points of Entry (MPOEs).
- Monitor the health and status of enterprise systems and data center hardware, applying firmware and software updates when stable releases are available and responding quickly to zero-day threats and critical incidents.
- Troubleshoot hardware and software defects, configuration issues, and infrastructure incidents, providing timely resolutions through the ticket queue and on-call rotation as needed.
- Assist with implementing and supporting enterprise infrastructure, including installation, configuration, patching, maintenance, and monitoring of both cloud-based and on-premise production environments.
- Coordinate with engineers to design and execute highly available, resilient, and fault-tolerant solutions across multi-data center and cloud environments, including replication for disaster recovery.
- Harden the security posture of enterprise systems by supporting information security audits, investigations, and compliance verification against corporate and government regulations.
- Plan and execute clean cabling of cabinets and two-post racks, maintaining inventory of supplies and spares including Ethernet, fiber, Twinax, and power cabling, as well as replacement components and N+1 spares.
- Produce and present reports on the operational health of enterprise systems, including performance metrics, support services status, and recommendations for improvement.
- Develop and maintain relationships with external vendors and service providers, managing contractor engagements to ensure work is completed to scope and within budget.
- Assist with business continuity planning and the development of protocols to minimize disruption in the event of emergencies or data loss.
Success in This Role Looks Like
- Maintaining maximum uptime across enterprise systems by proactively monitoring infrastructure health, responding to incidents quickly, and executing planned maintenance with minimal disruption.
- Delivering clean, well-documented data center installations and cabling that meet Applied Medical's standards for organization, performance, and scalability.
- Building trusted working relationships with engineers and internal stakeholders by providing reliable technical support and clear communication on infrastructure matters.
- Contributing to the security and compliance posture of enterprise systems by identifying gaps and supporting remediation efforts in a timely manner.
- Managing vendor and contractor relationships effectively, ensuring engagements are completed on scope and aligned with departmental standards.
- Demonstrating a continuous learning mindset by pursuing relevant certifications, staying current on technology trends, and applying new knowledge to improve infrastructure operations.
