Job description

TechFlow is seeking an experienced Test Engineer / QA Lead to support a mission-critical DoD software development and modernization program in Montgomery, AL. This program provides software development and technical support services to sustain, enhance, and optimize a critical customer system through secure, scalable, and maintainable software solutions.

The Test Engineer / QA Lead will lead all quality assurance and software testing activities throughout the software development lifecycle. This role is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive manual and automated testing strategies, managing the software defect lifecycle, supporting cybersecurity accreditation activities, and ensuring software releases meet the highest standards for functionality, security, performance, accessibility, and reliability. Working closely with software engineers, architects, DevSecOps engineers, database administrators, and Government stakeholders, the QA Lead will help ensure every release is thoroughly validated before deployment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of comprehensive software testing activities, including functional, regression, integration, security, performance, and user acceptance testing.
  • Design, develop, maintain, and execute automated test suites supporting web applications, APIs, databases, and system integrations.
  • Create and maintain detailed manual test cases and test procedures for scenarios that require manual validation.
  • Develop reusable automated testing frameworks to improve testing efficiency and release quality.
  • Manage the complete software defect lifecycle, including defect identification, documentation, prioritization, verification, and closure in collaboration with development teams.
  • Provide regular testing status updates, metrics, and quality reports to the Government Test Manager and program leadership.
  • Support Risk Management Framework (RMF) activities by producing required testing evidence, security validation documentation, and accreditation artifacts.
  • Validate software compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), ensuring zero accessibility defects through automated and manual testing.
  • Verify software security scan results and ensure new vulnerabilities are remediated or properly documented, including validation of false positives.
  • Collaborate with Agile development teams to define test strategies, acceptance criteria, and quality objectives for each sprint.
  • Participate in peer reviews, sprint planning, release planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Promote quality engineering best practices, test automation, and continuous testing throughout the software development lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in software quality assurance or test engineering within DoD, federal, or large enterprise environments.
  • Experience leading both manual and automated software testing efforts.
  • Proficiency with automated testing frameworks such as Selenium, JUnit, REST Assured, or equivalent testing tools.
  • Experience with API testing, database testing, and test automation development.
  • Experience managing software defect tracking and collaborating with development teams to resolve issues.
  • Familiarity with DoD Risk Management Framework (RMF) testing evidence requirements and security assessment reporting.
  • Experience using accessibility testing tools and validating compliance with WCAG standards.
  • Strong understanding of Agile software development methodologies and software development lifecycle (SDLC) processes.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Active Secret Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ISTQB Certified Tester or equivalent software testing certification.
  • Experience supporting U.S. Air Force or other Department of Defense software modernization programs.
  • Experience with performance testing tools such as JMeter, LoadRunner, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with CI/CD-integrated automated testing.
  • Familiarity with GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps pipelines.
  • Experience validating STIG compliance and security testing results.
  • Knowledge of DevSecOps practices and continuous quality engineering methodologies.
