Job Description:
At Regions, the Intern works on department assignments while learning more about the financial services industry. As an intern, you will experience Regions' values while receiving job skills and training, personal development, and networking opportunities. Primary Responsibilities
  • Receives exposure to all basic functions of assigned group within the financial industry
  • Exposed to a wide range of tasks including research, administrative and correspondence work and attend meetings

This position requires the tracking of time and is eligible for overtime hours worked in excess of 40 per week under the Fair Labor Standards Act.

The Regions Risk Management Summer Internship Program offers internship opportunities to college students which includes positions across Corporate Compliance, Operational Risk Management, Enterprise Credit Risk, Financial Risk Management, and Enterprise Risk Management. Summer Interns will gain hands-on experience and exposure to various initiatives in Risk Management that are key priorities to enhance risk management principles and practices across the entire organization.
Summer Interns will operate as key team members, supporting internal initiatives. Each Summer Intern will be assigned to a specific team, participate in centralized training sessions, and have opportunities to interact with senior members to gain exposure to the various groups within Regions Risk Management.
Intern Placement Opportunities:
  • Enterprise Compliance and Operational Risk - The Enterprise Compliance and Operational Risk Management intern will have the opportunity to work with subject matter experts in the compliance and operational risk space. Through risk assessment design and execution, control documentation, testing coordination, monitoring, and tracking, the intern will develop and strengthen skills to contribute to the broader ECORM team. The experience will give an intern exposure to various areas across the bank, as well as an understanding around how data can be utilized to inform decision-making.
  • Consumer and Wealth Risk - The Consumer and Wealth Risk Management intern will gain experience with consumer and wealth risk data analysis. Overall, the intern will strengthen their technical skills, analysis skills, communication skills, risk management knowledge, and would get the experience of working with a diverse team of deeply skilled subject matter experts. The intern will also have the opportunity to learn about CWR risk areas through investigation, reporting, and data analysis with the broader CWR team and partners across Regions.
  • Enterprise Credit Risk - The Enterprise Credit Risk Management intern will have an opportunity to explore multiple facets of emerging risk. The intern will leverage internal and external data resources to take part in performance trend analysis, collaborative work through inbound questions from business leaders, support ad-hoc research efforts, and more. Potential skills used and gained could include: credit risk management foundational understanding, portfolio and economic analysis, data visualization, analytics, critical thinking, developing and delivering presentations, facilitating meetings, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Power BI, etc.
  • Market, Liquidity, and Capital Risk - The Market, Liquidity, and Capital Risk intern will have the opportunity to work on various projects including investment portfolio analysis, interest rate risk (IRR), regulatory gap analysis, review of qualitative approaches specific to capital planning, components of the independent liquidity review, and capital and liquidity stress testing. The intern will receive knowledge around how the bank enhances resiliency through proper capital and liquidity planning, better understand how the economy and interest rates impact the bank's financial performance, and how risk management practices are utilized to monitor and manage those risks.
  • Enterprise Risk Management -The Enterprise Risk Management intern will engage in many facets of risk management across the bank. The intern will support workstreams dedicated to risk management practices and governance. Projects might include data synthesis, upgrading testing and validation, enhancing requirements documentation, business process mapping integration, migration testing and validation, as well as creating and updating training documentation. The intern will work with a diverse group of associates across the enterprise to gain a greater understanding of Regions Risk Management.

Additional Requirements:
  • Current undergraduate or graduate student with expected graduation of December 2027 or May/ June 2028, majoring in technical (ex. data science, technology) or business fields
  • Ability to work 40 hours per week for 10 weeks during the summer in Birmingham, AL

  • Preferred minimum 3.0 GPA
