Internship Custom Home Builders information

What is an internship custom home builder?

Internship Custom Home Builders are entry-level positions where students or recent graduates gain hands-on experience working with companies that design and construct custom homes. Interns typically assist with various aspects of the home building process, such as project management, site visits, drafting plans, and communicating with clients or contractors. These internships provide valuable insight into the residential construction industry and help interns develop skills necessary for future careers in architecture, construction management, or home building.

What kind of hands-on experience can I expect during an internship with a custom home builder?

As an intern with a custom home builder, you can expect to gain practical, real-world experience by assisting with site visits, shadowing project managers, and helping coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers. You'll likely participate in tasks such as reviewing blueprints, tracking project progress, and learning about local building codes. This role offers a unique opportunity to see the full cycle of custom home construction, from initial planning to final walkthroughs, and to collaborate with architects, designers, and construction teams. Such exposure not only builds valuable industry knowledge but also helps you develop communication and organizational skills critical for a future career in home building.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an intern with custom home builders, and why are they important?

To thrive as an intern with custom home builders, you need a foundational understanding of construction principles, attention to detail, and a relevant educational background in construction management or a related field. Familiarity with construction management software, blueprint reading, and basic CAD tools is often advantageous. Strong communication, teamwork, and a willingness to learn are standout soft skills in this environment. These skills ensure you can effectively support project teams, adapt to dynamic work sites, and contribute to the successful completion of custom home projects.

Job description

Builder / Project Manager – Luxury Custom Homes

About Our Client:

Our client is a boutique builder crafting high-end, design-forward custom homes in the heart of Atlanta’s most sought-after neighborhoods along the 400 corridor. With an emphasis on craftsmanship, detail, and timeless design, they specialize in infill custom homes that start at $2M and above.

Their work is driven by integrity, collaboration, and an unwavering commitment to quality. They don’t cut corners, and they don’t chase volume. They build legacy homes. With a small, close-knit team that walks job sites together and solves problems side by side, they’re now seeking an experienced Builder / Project Manager to join the team and help bring architectural visions to life.

Who We’re Looking For:

You’re polished, professional, and proud of your work. You’ve led the build of multi-million dollar custom homes and can navigate complex job sites with confidence and precision. You’re detail-obsessed, blueprint fluent, and know how to keep trades, clients, and projects aligned from groundbreaking to final walkthrough.

You have experience working with a respected custom home builder and thrive in environments where design matters and craftsmanship is king. This isn’t production building—it’s boutique, hands-on construction at the highest level.

What You’ll Need:

• 3–5+ years of experience building custom homes

• Proven track record with a notable luxury or custom home builder

• Strong experience managing infill projects and basement installations

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, site plans, and architectural drawings

• Excellent communication skills and client-facing professionalism

• A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset

What You’ll Get:

• Base salary: $90,000–$120,000

• Performance bonuses

• Truck & phone allowance

• Matching 401(k)

• Paid PTO

• Contributions toward health insurance

• Continuing education support & professional development

If you’re ready to build homes that define neighborhoods—and work with a company that values doing things the right way—apply today.
