Location Description
Michael Foods, Inc. located in Norwalk, Iowa is a southern suburb in the Des Moines, Iowa metropolitan area. We are known for knowing our neighbors and enjoying a great quality of life! Our location produces high quality precooked egg patties as well as various French Toast products.
Responsibilities

Purpose:

- To provide an internship through the Skill Bridge program that allows transitioning Service Members an opportunity to learn the different skills and experiences required for a career in industrial maintenance. This Skill Bridge opportunity positions the participant with the opportunity for a Direct-Hire opportunity at the conclusion of the internship; barring the failure to meet expectations or it is determined that it is not the best fit for the transitioning service member. 

Length of Training: No Less than 90 Days to No more than 180 Days

 

Hours: M-F, 8am-4pm

 

Detailed Job Description

  1. This position performs process and production maintenance throughout the facility. Maintenance/Multi-craft Maintenance responsibilities include but are not limited to equipment breakdowns, installation and startups, process improvements, preventative/precision maintenance programs and continuous improvements activities, i.e. machine reliability and installation of facility capital investments.

Responsibilities for the Michael Foods Skill Bridge program may include but are not limited to:

  • Utilize CMMS to support the maintenance function including review, execution and

documentation of daily scheduled/unscheduled work.

  • Experience in the installation and repair of mechanical equipment required. Diagnose and repair

of all machinery and process malfunctions, must be fluent in mechanical troubleshooting.

  • Diagnose and repair of all mechanical power transmission equipment. Knowledge of gear boxes,

mechanical drives, variable speed applications, and Servo motors.

  • Diagnose and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Knowledge of cylinders, valves,

manifolds, vacuum systems, air filtration and lubrication devices.

  • Diagnose, repair and overhaul process pumps, automatic control valves, sensors, positioners,

actuators, basic electrical AC/DC troubleshooting, and related systems.

  • Proficient in knowledge of bearings, pulleys, chain drives, belt drives, and lubricants standards

and applications.

  • Experienced use of precision tools i.e. dials indicators, micrometers, calipers, and depth gauges.
  • Read and decipher mechanical drawings, schematics, and piping diagrams. Ability to

read/interpret Electrical Schematics is a plus.

  • Skilled in pipe fitting, soldering, rigging application and use of mechanical tools, hand tools, and

power tools.

  • Skilled in machine shop to fabricate within specific tolerance.
  • 480v 3 phase knowledge required. Knowledge and practice of NFPA 70E preferred.
  • Adhere to safe work practices, follow GMP’s, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality or personnel safety.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures
  • Responsible for Food Safety and Food Quality of MFI products.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
