Job description

This internship will follow an in-person model. Interns will be based at the Stellantis Headquarters and Technology Center in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Relocation assistance may be available for candidates who meet specific eligibility criteria. The internship program is scheduled to run from May through August 2027.

DEPARTMENT DETAILS:
 

The Digital Modeling Intern will support the Design Studio and Digital Modeling team in the development of exterior and interior vehicle models, show car concepts, and related design studies. This role is intended for a student or early-career candidate who is interested in automotive design, digital modeling, surface development, and the connection between creative design intent and technical execution. 

The intern will work with experienced Digital Modelers, Designers, Engineers, and Fabrication partners to help develop, review, and refine digital model data. Assignments may include supporting scan data reviews, surface updates, package studies, basic structural layouts, presentation materials, and coordination activities related to show car or advanced design projects. 

This position provides exposure to the full design development process, including how digital models are created, evaluated, adjusted, and prepared to support design reviews, fabrication needs, and program timing. 

Role Responsibilities: 

  • Support Digital Modeling team members with basic surface, package, and model development activities. 
  • Assist with reviewing scan data, design surfaces, and package information to help identify areas needing update or refinement. 
  • Help prepare digital model data for design reviews, team discussions, and fabrication handoff. 
  • Support development of exterior and interior design studies under the guidance of senior team members. 
  • Assist with basic section studies, shut-line reviews, and functional packaging investigations. 
  • Participate in cross-functional discussions with Design, Engineering, and Fabrication teams. 
  • Help document open items, design changes, model updates, and follow-up actions. 
  • Learn how digital modeling supports design intent, show car development, and physical build feasibility. 
  • Support project timelines by completing assigned tasks and communicating status clearly. 
  • Contribute ideas and observations while learning from experienced team members  

PORTFOLIO REQUIREMENTS: 

  • This position requires a portfolio in a PDF format be submitted with your application

  • Your portfolio should represent your skills as it pertains to the position to which you're applying 
  • Your most current work should be presented first and displayed in descending order of most current to oldest 
  • When appropriate, provide a brief description of your contributions to work that is submitted for review. (i.e., if a full model is presented, explain if you were responsible for the full model or if your involvement was limited to specific areas of the model) 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Transportation Design, Industrial Design, Digital Modeling, Automotive Design, Engineering, or a related field 
  • Basic understanding of 3D modeling, surface development, or digital design tools 
  • Exposure to tools such as Alias, CATIA, 3DEXPERIENCE, NX, Blender, Autodesk tools, or similar software 
  • Experience interpreting sketches, design direction, package information, reference data, or similar materials through coursework, projects, internships, or other relevant activities. 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite applications 
  • Able to work full-time, 40 hours per week during the internship 
  • Willingness to relocate for internship 
  • Completion of freshman year or higher at an accredited college or university by Spring 2027  
  • Candidates must submit a current portfolio, saved as a PDF, representing work from freshman year to the present 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Interest in automotive design, digital modeling, show car development, and vehicle surface execution 
  • Strong communication, organization, and follow-up skills 
  • Willingness to learn, ask questions, and collaborate in a team environment 
  • Ability to manage assigned tasks and adapt as project needs evolve 
  • Familiarity with automotive design terminology and studio workflows 
  • Basic understanding of vehicle proportions, surfaces, sections, and package constraints 
  • Experience with digital modeling, visualization, CAD, or 3D design coursework 
  • Interest in how design intent transitions from digital data to physical models or show car builds 
  • Comfortable participating in reviews and receiving feedback from multiple disciplines 
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a strong interest in design quality and technical accuracy 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills  
  • Good interpersonal skills  
  • Ability to work in a team environment
