This position helps individuals gain practical experience in effective communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving within a professional environment.

You'll likely participate in team brainstorming sessions, gather user feedback, and help refine response flows for clarity and engagement. These hands-on tasks provide valuable exposure to the conversational AI field and offer opportunities to build communication, analytical, and teamwork skills.

Job Description

Job Title: Conservative Writer Intern

Reports To: Editorial Team Lead and Editorial Director

Job Description:

***This vacancy may be used to fill other types of content writer positions...

*** This is an unpaid internship. Some receive college credit from their schools for working with us.

Do you think you might want to become a conservative writer, blogger, podcaster, on-the-air talent or influencer? If yes, you've come to the right place.

We are nonpartisan and actively seek out conservative voices in order to maintain political balance.  Conservatives feel completely welcome at OUR NATIONAL CONVERSATION, or ONC for short.

The Conservative Writer Intern will focus on writing political content for ONC, including but not necessarily limited to high-quality OpEds and Policy Proposals for ONC's website. In addition to ensuring that diverse content appears on the site, this intern may opt to participate in podcasts, social media postings, events, and other assignments. If you are a go-getter who takes initiative, we want to hear from you!

This position is remote, with work primarily conducted over Zoom and Slack, so applicants must be comfortable coordinating in a remote environment and are expected to maintain a high level of communication. We place a high value on those who take initiative.

This intern must commit to at least a full semester. Many interns extend their internship past the time of their original commitment.  The longer you stay, the more opportunities to lead teams and get involved in exciting projects.

Benefits: Flexible schedule, college credit, professional networking, and resume-building experience.

Compensation: This is not a paid position.

Responsibilities:

  • Create consistent content for the website with a team of core content writers.
  • Ensure ONC's commitment to nonpartisanship, ideological diversity, and civil debate is reflected in all published work.
  • Participate in civil dialogue with conservative, progressive, and moderate writers focused on our 8 policy areas: Governance, Economics, Infrastructure, Healthcare, Foreign Policy and Defense, Justice and Public Safety, Social Issues, and Science, Environment and Technology.
  • Participate in podcasts, events, and other tasks as needed.
Qualifications

Requirements: The Conservative Writer Intern should have the following skills, education, and experience:

  • This role would be particularly good for those working towards a degree in Political Science, Journalism, English or Literature, Public Policy, Media Studies, International Relations, and/or related fields
  • Exceptional writing skills are required (English)
  • Responsive, consistent, and effective communicator, even during conflict
  • Experience in policy research, political commentary, political science, or a related domain preferred
  • Ability to work remotely and on their own schedule in order to make deadlines
  • Google Workspace experience preferred
  • Ability to attend some weekly Friday afternoon Editorial meetings
  • Must be authorized to intern in the U.S.
Additional Information

All your information will be kept confidential according to EEOC guidelines.

**A writing sample must be submitted to be considered for this internship -- just 2-3 paragraphs at the bottom of your cover letter will be fine**
