What does a Computer Science Intern do?

A Computer Science Intern supports software development teams by assisting with coding, testing, debugging, and documentation tasks. Interns often work on real-world projects under the guidance of experienced engineers, gaining hands-on experience with programming languages, development tools, and collaborative workflows. The role helps students apply classroom knowledge in a professional setting, build their technical skills, and understand workplace dynamics in the tech industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Computer Science Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Computer Science Intern, you need foundational knowledge in programming, algorithms, and data structures, typically gained through coursework or related projects in a computer science degree program. Familiarity with coding languages like Python, Java, or C++, and experience with version control systems such as Git are often required. Strong problem-solving skills, eagerness to learn, and effective communication set outstanding interns apart. These abilities enable interns to contribute to real-world projects, adapt quickly, and collaborate successfully within technical teams.

What types of projects or tasks can I expect to work on as a Computer Science Intern?

As a Computer Science Intern, you can expect to work on a variety of projects that may include software development, debugging, testing, or assisting with database management. Interns often collaborate closely with full-time engineers and participate in code reviews, team meetings, and occasionally client interactions. The work environment is usually collaborative, providing opportunities to learn from experienced mentors and gain exposure to real-world development cycles. These experiences are designed to help you build technical skills and prepare for future roles in the industry.

Job description

Objective: Support sales, marketing, and growth initiatives through data analysis, market research, prospecting, and other key activities.

About Us: Delfina provides a leading pregnancy care data platform to improve maternal and child health outcomes.

About You: We are looking for a data science-oriented intern to join our Sales Enablement team for summer 2026. In this role, you will apply your analytical skills to help our sales and provider partnerships teams work more effectively - from building data-driven materials to surfacing insights that accelerate how we engage practices, health system and payer partners. This internship reports directly to the VP of Provider Partnerships and offers meaningful exposure to healthcare commercial strategy, data analysis, and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze sales pipeline and provider engagement data to identify trends and opportunities
  • Build dashboards and reporting tools that give the sales team visibility into key performance metrics
  • Develop data-driven models for prioritizing sales outreach, leveraging available Medicaid and clinical performance data
  • Support the team in tracking and measuring the effectiveness of sales enablement initiatives
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with clinical, product, and operations teams to gather and synthesize relevant insights
  • Present findings and recommendations to senior stakeholders

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a graduate degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Proficiency in Python, R, or SQL for data analysis
  • Experience with data visualization tools
  • Strong communication skills - able to translate complex data into clear, compelling narratives
  • Proactive, self-directed, and comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment
  • Interest in healthcare, women's health, or value-based care is a plus

Internship details:

  • Start Date: June 1, 2026 (flexible)
  • End Date: August 7, 2026 (flexible)
  • Compensation: $6,500/month
  • Schedule: Full-time
  • Location: Remote or in-person at a Delfina regional office

We value that everyone at Delfina brings a unique background and perspective. Prospective applicants are encouraged to apply even if they do not meet 100% of the listed qualifications and are encouraged to use their resume and other application materials to demonstrate how their skills meet, or are equivalent to, the listed qualifications.

Compensation: $6,500/month

The compensation range for this intern position represents a wide variety of factors, including location, skills, experience, education, and training. Candidates who meet most of the qualifications above should expect to earn near the middle of the posted compensation range.

Delfina provides equal opportunities without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, pregnancy or family status, national origin, age, veteran or disability status.

Note that Delfina does not currently sponsor or facilitate any U.S. work authorization for this position.  All applicants must have unrestricted and independent authorization to work at Delfina.
