Construction Estimator - Earthwork
Location: Orem, UT
Pay: $90,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year

Job Summary
The Construction Estimator prepares complete bid packages for heavy-civil projects with a primary focus on mass excavation and grading. You will lead takeoffs, subcontractor outreach, and pricing..
Key Responsibilities
  • Review drawings and specifications to define scope, quantities, and risk items.
  • Perform detailed earthwork takeoffs (mass haul, shrink/swell, site balance).
  • Build cost models in HCSS HeavyBid and maintain accurate production databases.
  • Analyze material sources, haul routes, and equipment spreads (scrapers, trucks, dozers).
  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes.
  • Recommend design or means-and-methods alternatives to improve cost or constructability.
  • Coordinate with operations, survey, and engineering during bid reviews.
  • Mentor estimators and interns; share best practices and lessons learned.
  • Support preconstruction and handoff meetings after successful bids.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of estimating experience for heavy-civil earthwork projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of mass excavation, site balancing, and material shrink/swell factors.
  • Proficiency with HCSS HeavyBid; familiarity with Trimble Business Center, Bluebeam, Excel, and scheduling software.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced bid environment.
