Job description

Department: City Manager's Office Reports To: Communications Director

Summary: The Summer Intern position offers students and early-career professionals the opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience in municipal government. Interns will assist with assigned projects, support daily operations, and develop professional skills while working under the guidance of City staff.

The Summer intern assigned to the Communications department will support daily operations and assist with departmental projects, gaining hands-on experience in marketing, graphic design, and video shooting.

Essential Functions: Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Oversees and coordinates assigned department communications, marketing, and outreach programs.
  • Recommends and assists in the implementation of communication program goals and objectives; establishes schedules and methods for providing program services, including work plans, service level agreements, and memoranda of understanding; and implements communications policies and procedures.
  • Monitors performance of assigned communications, marketing, and outreach programs. Recommends and implements modifications to systems and procedures.
  • Actively manages City social media accounts, posting and responding appropriately within time frames set by the Director of Communications.
  • Serves as an official City photographer/videographer; attends all events that need to be documented; edits photos/videos to share with the public.
  • Follow all City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualification

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines: Must be at least 18 years of age. Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or technical program in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Enrollment in a field related to the assigned department
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office or relevant tools
  • Interest in public service or municipal government

  • Must be sensitive to Corporate needs, employee goodwill, and business needs.

Physical demands and working environments: Interns will work up to 40 hours per week Schedule may vary based on departmental needs and availability. Work is performed in an office, field, or operational setting, depending on assignment. May include sitting, standing, walking, or light physical activity


Internship Duration: Temporary, seasonal position (Summer Internship Program). Start and end dates will be determined by the department and HR.
