BETA Group, Inc. is seeking motivated candidates for our 2027 Summer Internship - Structural Engineering program. As an intern, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to a variety of real-world structural projects alongside a team of experienced engineers, planners, and scientists. This is a valuable opportunity to learn from industry leaders and gain practical skills that will support your future in engineering. Responsibilities:

  • Gain valuable hands-on experience to begin building your engineering career
  • Apply classroom knowledge to the design and analysis of bridges and culverts for local and state transportation projects
  • Support a variety of active projects across both design and construction phases
  • Contribute to project tasks and deliverables while learning new technical skills
  • Participate in field visits and site inspections to see how designs perform in the real world
  • Develop a deeper understanding of the engineering profession through practical experience
  • Collaborate with and learn from experienced engineers, planners, and technical staff

Preferred location is BETA's Norwood, MA office. Candidates should have flexibility to work from our other office locations.

Requirements

Skills Required:

  • Enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in civil engineering, or related field
  • Understanding of general engineering theory and concepts
  • General working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or other CAD platform
  • Proficient in the use of current technology (i.e., tablets, smart phones, laptops, etc.)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong technical aptitude with an eagerness to learn
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Must be able to collect field data and measurements including but not limited to roadway, sidewalk, and utility assets; and perform asset inspections
  • Must be able to lift/move objects weighing up to 40 pounds
  • Must be able to perform field work in both hot and cold weather (rain and/or snow)
  • Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time
  • Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation

Preferred Experience:

  • OSHA 10 Certification
