The Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering department is at the center of a high-tech start-up culture where students and faculty are supported and nurtured in New York City, and across the NYU Global Network.
Project Focus: Development and fabrication of photodetectors. This project involves the synthesis of colloidal quantum dots and their physical, chemical, structural, optical and electrical characterization followed by fabrication and device characterization of photodetectors.
Expectations:
Candidates will be responsible for initiating and driving a multi-institute collaborative project and perform work in a multidisciplinary environment.
    • The successful candidate will be driven, creative and team-oriented with a passion for developing nanomaterials.
    • We are seeking individuals with a strong background in chemistry, physics, engineering, and/or materials design, and/or related field.
    • Proficiency in colloidal quantum dots synthesis and/or device fabrication/characterization is required. We welcome applicants from recent PhDs and individuals seeking additional postdoctoral training.
    • It is expected that the candidate will work with others on interdisciplinary research projects, carry out assigned lab and administrative responsibilities, be an efficient experimentalist, and be a good lab and team member. Effective communication skills are required.

Duties:
    • Experiment Support: Assist researchers with setting up experiments, preparing solutions, and conducting routine laboratory procedures. Troubleshoot technical issues as they arise and provide guidance to lab members as needed.
    • Data Management: Maintain accurate records of experimental procedures, results, and observations. Organize data in electronic databases and assist with data analysis as required.
    • Laboratory Maintenance: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the laboratory, including equipment maintenance, inventory management, and cleanliness protocols. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and best practices.
    • Procurement and Budgeting: Coordinate the ordering of supplies and reagents, track expenditures, and manage the lab budget effectively. Identify cost-saving opportunities and liaise with vendors to negotiate favorable pricing.
    • Training and Supervision: Provide training to new lab members on laboratory techniques, safety protocols, and equipment usage. Supervise the work of undergraduate students or interns assigned to the lab.
    • Compliance and Documentation: Ensure adherence to institutional guidelines, regulatory requirements, and ethical standards in all laboratory activities. Maintain documentation related to safety training, equipment calibration, and protocol approvals.

Salary:
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the hourly rate for this position is $34.34 per hour (approximately 21 hours per week), depending on the candidate's experience and qualification.
Duration: 6 months with potential of extensions.
Qualifications
  • PhD candidate in physics, chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, or related field.
  • Previous experience working in a laboratory setting, preferably in a research or academic environment.
  • Familiarity with laboratory techniques, instrumentation, and safety procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities effectively for coordination of administrative and lab responsibilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, data analysis software).
  • Familiarity with LabView.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
