Job description

Vaco is actively seeking a Senior Cloud Cost Analyst for a direct-hire role supporting a nationally respected, technically focused, and growing financial organization. Position Summary The Senior Cloud Cost Analyst will take ownership of optimizing Cloud expenditures within a sophisticated multilayered ecosystem. This role focuses on bringing visibility, discipline, and controls to Cloud and software spend through detailed analysis, cross-functional collaboration and prioritization, implementing financial guardrails, and ongoing monitoring and advisement.

Key Responsibilities: Perform in-depth analysis of primarily AWS Cloud utilization and spending patterns to identify root causes of cost overruns or strategic cost control opportunities. Design and implement cost allocation models, resource tagging standards, and showback mechanisms to improve transparency and accountability across teams. Develop and maintain accurate forecasting, budgeting, and variance reporting to support technical financial planning.

Identify and drive cost optimization initiatives including rightsizing, reserved capacity commitments, instance scheduling, and eliminating unused resources. Establish and enforce cost governance policies, approval workflows, and automate guardrails to prevent uncontrolled spending. Build executive-level dashboards and regular reports that clearly communicate cost performance, trends, and savings opportunities.

Partner with technical and finance teams to embed cost awareness into infrastructure decisions and development processes. Monitor for cost anomalies, set up proactive alerts, and lead recurring spend review meetings. Recommend and help implement tools and best practices to strengthen long-term cost discipline.

Document policies, procedures, and playbooks to sustain cost control after initial stabilization. Qualifications: Strong analytical and financial modeling skills with proven experience analyzing large datasets. Previous experience utilizing tools such as Apptio Cloudability to monitor and control IT Cloud utilization and spend.

Working knowledge of AWS pricing models, billing structures, and cost management tools such as Cost Explorer, Budgets, and tagging. Ability to translate complex cost data into clear, actionable insights for both technical and business stakeholders. Experience building cost governance frameworks, policies, and reporting processes.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence cross-functional teams. Highly organized self-starter comfortable operating independently in a dynamic environment. Additional Details Employment Type: Direct-Hire with Client Location: Downtown St.
