Chemical Engineer

Job Description

This Chemical Engineer role supports both a food-grade plant and an industrial chemical plant by driving manufacturing and process improvement activities. You will monitor processes, analyze data, troubleshoot issues, and support validation efforts to improve product quality, efficiency, and process consistency. Working within a Delta IV control system and partnering closely with Operations, Quality, Maintenance, and Engineering, you will help maintain safe, compliant, and reliable manufacturing operations while implementing scientifically sound solutions to process-related challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor manufacturing processes in both the food-grade and chemical plants to ensure consistent performance and product quality.
  • Analyze process data to identify trends, deviations, and opportunities for improvement in efficiency, yield, and consistency.
  • Investigate process deviations and nonconformances, support root cause analysis activities, and develop corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support and lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on enhancing product quality, process stability, and operational efficiency.
  • Operate and optimize processes within a Delta IV control system, ensuring accurate configuration and effective use of automation.
  • Collaborate closely with Operations, Quality, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to support day-to-day manufacturing activities.
  • Assist with equipment and process validations, including planning, execution, and documentation of validation activities.
  • Prepare clear and accurate technical documentation, including process descriptions, reports, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Analyze process capability data and use statistical tools to assess performance and recommend improvements.
  • Assist with automation and system improvement projects, contributing engineering expertise to upgrades and modifications.
  • Serve as a technical resource for manufacturing operations, providing guidance on chemical engineering principles, process conditions, and troubleshooting.
  • Help ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements in both the food-grade and industrial chemical environments.
  • Support laboratory-related activities as needed to validate process changes, confirm product quality, or troubleshoot issues.
  • Contribute to maintaining a strong safety culture by following established procedures and participating in safety-related activities.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • Knowledge of chemical engineering principles as applied to manufacturing processes.
  • Experience or familiarity with chemical manufacturing and process engineering.
  • Ability to perform process monitoring, data analysis, and troubleshooting in a production environment.
  • Understanding of continuous improvement methodologies and their application in manufacturing.
  • Ability to support and participate in root cause analysis and corrective action development.
  • Capability to prepare clear technical documentation and reports.
  • Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with Operations, Quality, Maintenance, and Engineering teams.

Work Environment

This role is based on-site across two plants: an upper plant that operates as a culture food-grade pharmaceutical-style facility producing hydrated vegetable oils, and a lower plant that functions as an industrial chemical plant. You will work closely with a small office team of approximately six people, fostering a collaborative and family-oriented atmosphere. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with potential adjustment to 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. depending on operational needs. The company emphasizes safety and long-term stability, with a strong safety record and an environment that values tenure and continuous investment in operations.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $31.25 - $38.46/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
