Manufacturing Engineer-Mechanical
Job Summary
Design/modify equipment to improve productivity, safety, and ease of maintenance in foundry, machining, and automation applications.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Define scope of project, working with all plant groups (production, maintenance, safety, quality, etc.)
  • Design 3D working model
  • Complete necessary FEA through Ansys and hand calculations to prove concept of design
  • Detail 2D drawings, understanding material selection and GD&T
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic design, schematics, and bills of materials
  • Order all components, working with purchasing department
  • Lead build of equipment
  • Organize installation of equipment, through development of scope of work, and leadership of contractor and WF installation crews
  • Follow-up with plants to transition equipment to full production
  • Design/modify existing equipment
  • Design of robot cells, following all WF/OSHA safety standards and guidelines

Preferred Education/Experience Requirements
Mechanical Engineering, Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Provide job shadows for high school/college aged students
  • Lead summer interns or co-op students
  • Lead installation crews, often serving as a direct supervisor, responsible for all safety and administrative duties (Hot Work Permits, Pre-job Meetings, Critical Lift Permits, New Equipment Buy-offs, Risk-ranking, etc.)

  • Ability to learn the functionality of a piece of equipment, mechanically inclined
  • Determination to do whatever it takes to solve complex problems
  • Ability to network and perform in cross-functioning teams of employees, from differing plants and departments
  • Verbal and written communication

  • Microsoft Office, Ansys, SAP, Autodesk (AutoCAD, Inventor, & Vault), Optics

  • Work Environment
  • Majority of time spent in manufacturing engineering office. Some additional areas include fabrication shop, machine shop, and foundry.
