Structural Engineering Intern | Fort Worth, TX

This posting is for Summer 2027 Internship Opportunities
IMEG is hiring a Structural Engineering Intern in Fort Worth, TX. Over 10-12 weeks, you'll assist in the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of structural systems in buildings and other structures while working alongside experienced engineers and consultants. This is a paid, mentored internship with real project work and hands-on exposure from day one.
You'll support project coordination, documentation, and job site observations while collaborating with cross-functional teams to help meet project goals, client expectations, and project budgets. The team you would join supports work across civic, education, aviation, infrastructure, and facility assessment projects in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and broader Texas markets, contributing to sustainable design goals including SE2050.

What You'll Do
  • Assist with project design for discipline systems in accordance with code and IMEG standards.
  • Assist with project research and resource gathering.
  • Assist with client relations, project design notebook maintenance, and permanent record documentation.
  • Assist with coordinating design and schedule with other disciplines, including architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical and suppliers.
  • Assist with documenting design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring project design progress.
  • Assist with reviewing project documents for accuracy and completeness before requesting a final check.
  • Assist with the preparation and issuance of addendum information.
  • Conduct periodic job site observations and other services required by the contract services agreement.

What You'll Bring
Education
  • Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent, required

Experience
  • None listed.

Required Skills/Abilities
  • Strong interest in design consulting
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Skilled in AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (BIM) software
  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups

Preferred
  • Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred

  • Texas-based structural team with a strong public-sector and existing-building specialty, including forensics, facility condition assessments, historic preservation/adaptive reuse, detention/courthouse work, and parking garage restoration.
  • Recent work includes Tarrant County / Fort Worth, TX / Law Enforcement Training Center, Government (City/County/State), and City of Fort Worth / Fort Worth, TX / Fort Worth Convention Center Phase 2 - New Construction, Government (City/County/State).
