Job description

Apps Architect || FTE at New York

  1. Modernization & Legacy Refactoring
  • Migration Strategy: Lead the migration from legacy architectures (N-Tier, Monolithic, Mainframe) to modern cloud-native planes using strategies like the Strangler Fig Pattern.
  • Complexity Reduction: Identify redundant systems and consolidate application footprints through rigorous refactoring and simplification, turning "spaghetti code" into modular services.
  • Legacy-to-Modern Bridging: Architect integration layers that allow legacy systems to coexist with modern microservices during long-term migration cycles.
  1. Full-Stack & Advanced Pattern Design
  • Event-Driven & Streaming: Design high-throughput systems using asynchronous patterns, Event Sourcing, and CQRS. Implement streaming backbones (Kafka, Redpanda) for real-time data processing.
  • Microservices & Serverless: Establish standardized chassis and sidecar patterns for microservices, ensuring consistency across security, logging, and service discovery.
  • Low-Latency & HA: Architect for "five nines" (99.999%) availability using multi-region active-active setups, circuit breakers, and edge computing to minimize latency.
  1. Cloud-Native Leadership
  • Platform Evolution: Leverage Kubernetes (K8s), Service Mesh (Istio/Linkerd), and Serverless (Lambda/Cloud Functions) to build portable, elastic applications.
  • Twelve-Factor Principles: Enforce Twelve-Factor App methodologies across all new developments to ensure cloud-native compatibility.
  • Innovation Lab: Lead POCs on emerging tech like WebAssembly (Wasm) or AI-assisted refactoring to accelerate the modernization timeline.
  • Required Skills & Qualifications
    1. Experience
      • 12+ years in Software/Enterprise Architecture; 5+ years leading large-scale modernization programs.
    2. Full-Stack Depth
      • Mastery of Java/Spring Boot, Node.js, or Go, plus modern frontend frameworks (React/Vue).
    3. Cloud Mastery
      • Hands-on expertise in AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform with a focus on PaaS and Serverless offerings.
    4. Patterns
      • Deep knowledge of Microservices, EDA, Domain-Driven Design (DDD), and API-First design.
    5. Infrastructure
      • Proficiency in Terraform/Pulumi, Docker, and Kubernetes orchestration.
    6. Legacy Knowledge
      • Familiarity with COBOL, SOAP, old-school RDBMS (Oracle/DB2), and Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) patterns.
  • The "Architect-Engineer" Profile
  • Design for Scale: You don't just build for today; you build for 100x traffic spikes.
  • Simplification Obsessed: You believe that "the best code is no code" and constantly look for ways to delete or consolidate legacy modules.
  • Operational Empathy: You design systems that are easy to monitor (Observability) and even easier to troubleshoot.
