Summary:

The main function of a network administrator / engineer is to determine user requirements and design specifications for computer networks. A typical network engineer is responsible for planning and implementing network upgrades.

Job Responsibilities:

• Adjust network sizes to meet volume or capacity demands.

• Communicate with customers, sales staff, or marketing staff to determine customer needs.

• Coordinate network operations, maintenance, repairs or upgrades.

• Design, build, or operate equipment configuration prototypes, including network hardware, software, servers, or server operation systems.

• Determine specific network hardware or software requirements such as platforms, interfaces, bandwidths, or routine schemas.

• Develop and implement solutions for network problems.

Skills:

• Verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills.

• Basic ability to work independently and manage one’s time.

• Basic knowledge of computer hardware as it relates to data storage.

• Knowledge of computer software, such as configuration management software, desktop communications software, operating system software and internet directory services software.

- Role will focus on wireless network support for the clients autonomous and remote-control applications. Technologies could range from wifi to both private LTE & private 5G cellular. This role will work at our local testing center and will focus on day-to-day support of wireless technologies that support Caterpillar autonomous and remote-control machines.

- On-site daily at our Testing Grounds and Demonstration Center supporting validation work as well as customer and dealer demos. This role works on and around heavy equipment to ensure wireless connectivity functions properly. Testing and tuning RF (Wi-Fi and cellular) around the two facilities is a critical part of this job daily.

- Cisco Wireless Lan Controller experience desired

- 2-4 years of route/switch core network experience

- Should have a good understanding of Wireshark and packet capture analysis

- Configuration and troubleshooting of outdoor wireless experience desired (deeper experience than cellular drive testing)

- Linux experience is nice to have

- Mechanical capability (installing outdoor access points on solar trailers, working with tools, etc.)
