Job description

Position Overview: The National Director of Operations leads the team of Operations Directors in each of the Project C.U.R.E. distribution centers throughout the U.S. Their primary role is to build, develop, encourage and grow the Operations Directors and their volunteer leaders in their abilities, accountability and effectiveness. Because Project C.U.R.E. is a volunteer-driven organization, identifying and developing the next generation of leaders is the paramount measure of success in this role. The National Director ensures that processes in each distribution center are carefully designed, consistently implemented, regularly audited and constantly improved, with the goal of delivering high-quality, life-saving medical supplies and equipment to underserved populations around the world.


Responsibilities: The National Director of Operations is responsible for the development of the Operations Directors and their leadership team to achieve the mission of Project C.U.R.E. This is accomplished through coaching, mentorship, motivation, and accountability. An effective National Director will model these attributes and assist each Operations Director as they recruit, train and develop volunteer leaders who manage the thousands of volunteers that serve the organization.


The National Director will set clear expectations, provide direction, identify growth opportunities, and build a leadership pipeline of strong volunteer leaders who are identified, trained and promoted into greater responsibility. The Director establishes the training programs, meeting schedules, leadership standards and development pathways consistently across all locations.


The National Director of Operations will ensure that the Operations Directors achieve their goals and OKRs in these key areas:

  • Procurement & Transportation – collecting the medical donations from local hospitals and clinics;
  • Equipment Inspection & Repair – checking the equipment and repairing malfunctioning items;
  • Processing & Sorting – checking quality of supplies, sorting into categories and boxing for shipment;
  • Warehousing & Safety – maintaining the warehouses, trucks and equipment and providing a safe environment for staff and volunteers;
  • Packing & Shipping – loading the containers with quality, appropriate cargo.

Qualifications: A successful candidate has demonstrated success in both leadership and management. They understand operational details and can motivate individuals to achieve goals and metrics. They have a passion for international healthcare and the mission of Project C.U.R.E. They will demonstrate strategic thinking, rigorous execution, and the ability to inspire others both internally and externally.


The successful candidate demonstrates the following qualities:

  • Experience and Education: Holds a bachelor’s degree and has 5+ years of operations, logistics or multi-site management experience, preferably within healthcare, distribution or a volunteer-driven nonprofit.
  • Develops leaders: Builds, coaches and elevates direct-report leaders and the volunteer leaders beneath them, multiplying capability and creating a leadership pipeline within the context of a “performance culture.” Is accessible to volunteers and associates at all levels, interacting consistently, openly and honestly to ensure everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
  • Is goal oriented: Manages to metrics, OKRs and Key Performance Indicators, including meeting or exceeding goals and objectives, monitoring performance and reporting results; is a “self-starter” who is internally motivated and does not require significant supervision.
  • Solves problems: Can identify issues and create timely solutions to keep the mission moving forward, improve efficiencies and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Works well with others: Utilizes excellent relationship management and interpersonal skills; the ability to work effectively with donors, board members, volunteers, staff and interns; displays mature judgment, high emotional intelligence and effective communication skills.
  • Is a recognized leader: Continually seeks learning and self-improvement, maintains the highest ethical standards and values, and encourages others toward higher levels of effectiveness.
  • Is a capable communicator: Demonstrates effective communication skills in writing, interpersonal communication and public speaking; understands the importance of listening.
  • Is motivated: Has an obvious passion and enthusiasm for saving lives and strengthening health infrastructure systems in the developing world, with an attitude of tenacity and determination.

Reports To: The National Director of Operations is based at International Headquarters in Centennial, CO, and reports to the Vice President of Operations and Logistics.

Compensation & Benefits: The National Director of Operations compensation range is from $95,000 to $100,000 commensurate with experience and ability. Compensation includes health, dental, vision, disability and life insurance. A 403(b) plan is maintained for employees.
