Job Description:
Bon Appétit and Epicurious are seeking an Associate Editor to join the cooking team, reporting to the Director of Cooking. In this role, the Associate Editor will pitch, write, edit, and update articles, recipes, recipe galleries, newsletters, SEO-driven content, and more as assigned. They will be responsible for shepherding this content through its full lifecycle and across all relevant platforms. They will also be involved with project management on longer-lead packages and stories.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Generating ideas for stories that fit our rubrics and align with editorial calendars, themes, and goals
  • Writing and reporting content for cooking section and other sections as needed
  • Assigning and editing articles, galleries, and other types of content for our digital platforms and the print magazine
  • Leveraging our vast archive and various tools such as KW Finder, Google Trends, etc., for ideating, writing, and editing
  • Tracking and reviewing cookbooks with creator relationships and traffic/engagement-driving content in mind
  • Conceptualizing how recipes and stories might live across all editorial facets of the brand (digital, print, social, podcast, video, etc.), and contributing across platforms as needed
  • Assist with project management on longer-lead columns, packages, and stories
  • Strategically updating content for search optimization
  • Optimizing new and evergreen for different platforms (e.g. social, newsletter, print, etc.).
  • Content production tasks as assigned, including using our CMS to build and package stories, editorial calendar data entry, and more.
  • Participating in video, social video, and special events and projects as assigned
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned

Desired Skills and Qualifications:
  • Strong editorial judgment, writing, and reporting skills
  • Extremely organized, detail-oriented, and able to adhere to tight deadlines
  • Data-driven ideator, writer, editor, and curator
  • Clear communicator; takes initiative to align with people across departments (Art, Photo, Test Kitchen, Social, Audience Development) and with freelancers/outside contributors
  • Strong culinary knowledge and technique; professional cooking/baking experience not required but a plus
  • Knowledge of potential writers and story leads; proactive about identifying reliable sources and ensuring factual accuracy
  • Curious about and engaged with online culture and trends
  • 3-5 years experience in journalism, writing, or related fields, preferably on an editorial team within food media
  • Knowledge of digital CMSes, project management tools (e.g., AirTable), and K4

The expected base salary range for this position is from $70,000- $82,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.
