The Product Development Engineer leads the technical development for automotive engineering projects. Leads product development activities per the organization’s product development process.

Product Development Engineer Specific Responsibilities:

  • Leads technical activities on assigned automotive product development projects.
  • Plans and organizes project activities from Phase 0 to Phase 5 of Rea’s product development process.
  • Translates customer requirements into specifications and testing activities.
  • Leads DFMEAs, identifies risks, and engineers risk mitigation activities for projects.
  • Identifies validation and verification activities needed for internal design needs and to meet customer requirements.
  • Leads internal design reviews following the design control practices.
  • Practices design for lean and six sigma methodology.
  • Collaborates with laboratory resources to complete all testing activities.
  • Collaborate with the automotive team.
  • Works and collaborates with plant’s APQP team.
  • Supports and implements various tasks, projects, and actions in support of the automotive strategic plan.

Product Development Engineer Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Materials Science or Chemical Engineering. Master of Science preferred.
  • 5+ years of applicable experience in product/process engineering experience. Other attributes include:
  • Appreciation for continuous improvement in design practices, testing practices and overall improvements for the manufacturing of products.
  • Strong working knowledge of APQP.
  • Ability to problem solve and correct situations engineering principles
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to travel 20-30% domestically and up to 10%, at times, internationally.
