About the Opportunity

SSI is looking for a permanent, full-time Product Developer (AI Focused) to join our Product Development team in Victoria, British Columbia. This position will allow the successful candidate to work in-office, hybrid or remote depending on location.


The Product Developer specializing in Artificial Intelligence focuses on building the foundational systems, services, and tooling required to enable AI-driven capabilities across our shipbuilding software solutions.

The Position:

Working at the intersection of software engineering and applied AI, this role will collaborate with product teams, platform engineers, and architects to operationalize intelligent features across ship design and production systems.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Uphold and demonstrate SSI’s guiding principles in all business activities.
  • Represent ShipConstructor Software Inc. professionally and provide excellent service to internal and external customers.
  • Take initiative, be proactive, and contribute positively within and beyond your team.
  • Clarify requirements and expectations to ensure a thorough understanding of assigned work.
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain software in accordance with SSI coding standards and development guidelines.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve software defects, performance issues, security concerns, and other technical problems.
  • Complete assigned tasks within agreed timelines and budgets, escalating risks or variances promptly.
  • Document technical issues, resolutions, and development decisions for future reference.
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend tools, technologies, and process improvements that enhance software quality and team productivity.
  • Contribute to the creation, maintenance, communication, and enforcement of development standards and best practices.
  • Demonstrate leadership through collaboration, knowledge sharing, and effective participation in team meetings and discussions.
  • Plan, prioritize, and execute work efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


What we look for:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline
  • Solid experience in software development with a focus on backend or systems engineering
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C#, or C++
  • Experience designing and building scalable, distributed systems
  • Experience with AI/ML infrastructure or MLOps tooling (e.g., MLflow, Kubeflow, Azure ML)


Great to have:

  • Exposure to data engineering frameworks and streaming technologies
  • Experience working with large datasets, ideally in engineering or CAD-related domains
  • Knowledge of containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes)
  • Familiarity with spatial data and CAD systems
