JOB TITLE: Flightline Specialist
DEPARTMENT: Ware County Airport
JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for servicing aircraft, maintaining airport facilities, and providing information to pilots and passengers.
MAJOR DUTIES:
  • Provides service support for the airport, including directing, handling, securing and refueling aircraft.

  • Provides up to date information on weather and runway conditions to personnel utilizing the airport.

  • Identify procedures and reporting requirement for aircraft accident or fuel spill.

  • Display the knowledge and skill to conduct fuel quality tests and complies with standard procedure.

  • Provides the administrative and computer skills to maintain fuel report, credit card and cash register receipts.

  • Provide rental car information to personnel and assistance.

  • Maintains the cleanliness of the interior and exterior of the airport terminal.

  • Maintains the ground maintenance of the airport.

  • Maintains the runway and taxiway lighting system.

  • Records daily fuel sample, fuel and oil inventories; orders fuel and oil as needed.

  • Operates such equipment as a mobile refueler, aircraft towing tug and lawn equipment.

  • Provide the safe offload of fuel received from refueling tanker into fuel stowage tanks.

  • Be able to identify the different types of aircraft and the fuel requirements.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:
  • Knowledge of airport operations, policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of fueling and servicing procedures for various types of fixed wing and rotary aircraft.

  • Knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations.

  • Knowledge of the interpretation of weather condition indicators (DTN) and the Automated Weather Observation System (AWOS) for informing aircraft inbound the barometric pressure, wind direction and recommended runway to use.

  • Skill in the use of aircraft tugs, GPU, aircraft refueling truck, and fuel farm tanks and pumps.

  • Skill in basic mathematics.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Skill in the proper use of portable fire extinguishing equipment.

  • Skill in oral and written communication.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Airport Manager assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions requiring the use of good sound judgment. The supervisor may review completed work for the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES: Guidelines include airport policies and procedures, aviation fuel quality control guidelines, FAA and state safety rules and regulations. These guidelines are clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY: The work consists of related tasks in airport maintenance and customer service.
SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to assist airport customers by
refueling aircraft and maintaining airport facilities. Successful performance helps ensure the efficient and effective operation of the airport and a positive public image for the county.
PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with pilots. Passengers, co-workers and the general public.
PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to provide service and exchange information.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed with the employee sitting, standing, walking, and running, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee must lift light and heavy objects, handling aviation fuel, climb ladders, use equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguish between shades of color.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, irritating chemicals, machinery with moving parts, and occasional severe weather. The work requires the use of personnel protective equipment.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: None.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Have a high school diploma or (GED) with the ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations.

  • Have basic computer skills to use Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
