Position

Staff Electrical Engineer โ€“ Instrument Development

This onsite role in Rochester, NY focuses on advancing diagnostics through technical leadership and handsโ€“on engineering work for existing and new instrument platforms.

Responsibilities
  • Support current product instrumentation by conducting rootโ€‘cause analysis and delivering reliability improvements, field enhancements, and obsolescence solutions.
  • Lead or contribute to the design, verification/validation, and implementation of subsystem control boards, power systems, DSP boards, system harnessing, and other electrical instrumentation.
  • Provide technical input and feedback to design work through standardized design reviews.
  • Collaborate with engineering R&D to strengthen processes, tools, and methods aligned with the overall electrical engineering strategy.
  • Mentor junior engineers and interns to foster personal growth.
  • Work with internal stakeholders and external partners to deliver product features that improve customer experience, performance, and safety.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelorโ€™s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum 8+years of experience delivering products in medical, automotive, or defense industries with medical device exposure.
  • Handsโ€‘on experience in electrical engineering, rootโ€‘cause investigation, requirements management, product integration, risk management, and verification/validation.
  • Technical proficiency in servo/motion controller systems, fieldโ€‘oriented control, stepper motor driver circuits, digital and analog circuit design, EMI/EMC testing, and optical systems (preferred).
  • Strong customer focus, results orientation, and ability to manage priorities in a highly regulated environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation abilities.
  • Willingness to travel up to 5% domestically and internationally.
  • Position is not currently eligible for visa sponsorship.

  • Altium proficiency.

Work Environment

The role is set in a manufacturing/laboratory setting that includes handling viral and bacterial hazards, hazardous chemicals, and infectious or potentially infectious bodily fluids. Work requires up to 75% time at a desk, standing or sitting for extended periods, and flexibility to meet project deadlines.

Salary & Benefits

Salary range: $120,000 โ€“ $140,000, with bonus eligibility. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, disability insurance, 401(k) plan, employee assistance program, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, paid time off (including sick time), and paid holidays.
