The Role

The Assortment Intern owns and optimizes the product assortment for FreshDirect's Express locations. This role is responsible for ensuring the right products are available to meet customer demand while balancing operational constraints and overall merchandising strategy. The intern uses data analysis, operational feedback, and close collaboration with Category Managers to determine item selection, identify assortment opportunities, and support seasonal and holiday planning.

What You'll Do

Own and manage assortment decisions for FreshDirect's Express locations, ensuring the right mix of products to drive sales and meet operational needsacross residential and marketplace (Uber,Doordash,etc) channels.

Build and refine the process and framework for Express assortment planning, includingestablishingrepeatable methods for evaluating performance,identifyingopportunities, and implementing assortment changes.

Analyze data from multiple sources-including internal sales performance, customer demand trends, and external assortment recommendations-torecommend assortment additions, removals, and changes

Test and refine different assortment strategies for Express, using data and experimentation todeterminewhich items and categories perform best in the Express.

Partner closely with Category Managers and the Express Operations team to align on assortment strategy and execution.

Monitor key performance metrics toidentifytrends, risks, and opportunities within the Express assortment.

Lead holiday and seasonal assortment planning, including item selection, forecasting needs, and post-season analysis for Express locations.

Ensureaccurateitem setup and execution for assortment changes.

Communicate assortment updates clearly to cross-functional partners including operations, merchandising, and planning teams.

Participate in other assortment projects and cross-functional initiatives as needed.

What You'll Bring

2 years of experience in merchandising, category management, retail analytics, ora relatedfield.

Strong analytical and data interpretation skills with the ability to translate insights into actionable recommendations.

Advancedproficiencyin Microsoft Excel.

Exceptional attention to detail and organization.

Strong communicationand cross-functional collaboration skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Comfort working with both data analysis and operational partners to drive decisions.

A proactive mindset with strong problem-solving abilities

Nimble learner who adapts quickly and embraces continuous improvement.

Salary: The salary range for this internship is from $23 - $25.
