Position Summary
We are seeking a qualified American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to provide communication access for deaf or hard-of-hearing students in a school setting. The interpreter will facilitate effective communication between students, teachers, staff, and peers while maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and adherence to the Code of Professional Conduct.
Responsibilities
Interpret spoken English into ASL and ASL into spoken English during classroom instruction and school activities.
Provide communication access for students throughout the school day, including classroom instruction, meetings, and school-related activities.
Collaborate with teachers and school staff to support student access to instruction.
Maintain confidentiality and follow the professional Code of Ethics for interpreters.
Arrive prepared for daily assignments and adapt to a variety of classroom settings.
Complete any required documentation in accordance with district policies.
Qualifications
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English.
Experience interpreting in K–12 educational settings preferred.
RID Certification and/or state-required interpreter certification or licensure (preferred or required based on state regulations).
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with school staff.
