Position Overview

The Assistant Professor of Interior Architecture, in the Architectural Design Studies Department, reporting to the Associate Dean/Chair of Architectural Design Studies, teaches courses for the School of Visual and Performing Arts. They also advise students, participate in accreditation processes, engage in professional scholarship or development, assist in developing internship relationships and student opportunities, and participate in school- and college-wide service. They will teach courses and advise students for two semesters per academic year.

This position is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Endicott College Faculty Association (ECFA) and Endicott College. ECFA is a faculty union organized under the NEA (National Education Association) and provides structure and support for all full-time faculty at Endicott College.

This is a 9-month position.

Key Responsibilities

The Assistant Professor of Interior Architecture teaches a variety of studio and lecture courses in the Architectural Studies and Interior Architecture programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate will advise students, contribute to curriculum development and accreditation efforts, engage in professional scholarship and creative activity, foster internship partnerships and experiential learning opportunities, and participate actively in service to the School, College, and profession. Candidates should be comfortable teaching both traditional hand-drawing and physical model-making alongside advanced digital design and visualization tools and demonstrate a commitment to preparing students for an evolving, technology-driven design profession.

  • Teach 24 credits per academic year (12 credits each semester) at the undergraduate and/or graduate level, typically equivalent to four lecture courses per semester.
  • Advise up to 25 undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Maintain regular office hours and provide academic mentoring and support to students.
  • Participate in curriculum development, assessment, and accreditation activities.
  • Engage in professional development, scholarship, creative activity, research, and/or publication.
  • Attend and actively participate in department, school, and college meetings.
  • Contribute to service at the department, school, college, and professional levels.
  • Participate in undergraduate and graduate recruitment efforts, including evening and weekend Admission events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Endicott College Faculty Association (ECFA) and Endicott College.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Terminal degree in Interior Architecture or a closely related discipline
  • NCIDQ certification or the ability to obtain certification within two years of employment.
  • Ability to teach a range of undergraduate and graduate courses in Interior Architecture, with expertise in sustainable design and other areas of contemporary interior architecture practice.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard software, including Adobe Creative Suite, Revit, SketchUp, and AutoCAD.
  • Demonstrate expertise in the complete interior architecture design process, incorporating building systems and codes, and be skilled in sketching and model making.
  • Interest in incorporating emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), into design education and professional practice.
  • Familiarity with the standards and accreditation processes of the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) and the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).
  • Two to four years of college-level teaching experience preferred.
  • Three to five years of professional experience in interior architecture or interior design(knowledge or experience in healthcare design is a plus)
  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and communication skills with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student-centered teaching, mentorship, and experiential learning in a teaching-focused institution.
