Job description

We are looking for an Asphalt Maintenance Intern who is currently enrolled in and pursuing a degree in Construction Management or a related field. It is preferred that the candidate has at least two years until graduation and is willing to work at least 20 hours per week. It is expected that this opportunity will expose the candidate to all aspects of bidding work, daily site operations and coordination, support of project supervision, tracking schedules, budgets, and materials, for various types of asphalt-related work from production to final completed product. Heavy focus will be placed on willingness to learn job site operations and support of project managers and superintendents with the ability to develop communication skills to work successfully with ground crews, other project managers, as well as owners or owner's representatives. This opportunity will provide a good mix of field and office work. A competitive hourly wage, part-time benefits, office space, and a Company vehicle will be provided as needed.

About the Role
Responsibilities:
  • Working alongside laborers, operators, and truck drivers in all aspects of heavy civil construction.
  • Managing critical path timelines.
  • Participating in construction meetings with owners, architects, and engineers.
  • Understanding construction plans and assisting in surveying.
  • Assist in the day-to-day management of overall project operations, people, and processes to help in learning all facets of the construction industry.
  • Assist Project Managers with technical compliance and oversight of construction activities and field operations.
  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, specifications, and related technical documents.
  • Assist with project scheduling and coordination.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications:
  • Pursuing a BA/BS degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or closely related field.
  • Desire to pursue a career in estimating / cost management.
  • Field and/or internship experience a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience in On-Screen Takeoff a plus.
  • Self-directed with high integrity - takes pride in work.
  • Accurate and organized.
  • Good comprehension of construction drawings and specifications.
  • Understand and adhere to the Personal Protection Equipment requirements.
