About the location:
Located on the southeastern coast of the pristine island of Lāna'i, lies the secluded retreat of Four Seasons Resort Lāna'i, an oceanfront destination offering travelers a curated, personalized island escape. The five-star, five-diamond Resort offers outdoor restaurants, including Nobu Lāna'i, a kid's club, Tennis Garden, cultural programming, beach and pool with spacious seating areas nestled among tropical gardens, Hawanawana spa and luxury retail boutiques. Built on lava outcroppings, the award-winning Jack Nicklaus-signature golf course features ocean views on every hole. Island activities, many managed by Four Seasons include sunset sails and whale watch tours, horseback riding, sporting clays and archery, biking, hiking, and aerial adventures at Lanai Adventure Park or learn about Hawaiian wayfinding at the on-site observatory.
OBSERVATORY GUIDE
The Four Seasons Resorts Lāna'i is looking for an Observatory Guide who shares a passion for excellence and who infuses enthusiasm into everything they do. Our teams have the opportunity to shape our guest experience by providing exceptional knowledge of the Resort and exemplifying the Golden Rule in each interaction. Work authorization required.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
The Observatory Guide delivers immersive observatory experiences that combine astronomy, Hawaiian culture, and luxury guest service. This role leads nightly stargazing programs with a 1-meter telescope, conducts presentations and workshops, and maintains observatory equipment. The position works closely with resort teams and community partners, supports cultural programming, training, and special events, and consistently upholds high standards of service, safety, and cultural respect. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Lead and facilitate nightly observatory experiences, including storytelling, cultural interpretation, Hawaiian wayfinding, and guided stargazing for group and private sessions

  • Operate and oversee the safe use of a 1-meter telescope and related systems; conduct safety briefings and guide guests through celestial viewing experiences (planets, galaxies, star clusters)

  • Manage observatory bookings and guest communications using internal systems (Outlook, Book4Time, Key), including scheduling, reservations, waivers, and coordination of guest preferences and flow in collaboration with resort teams

  • Support internship programs, team development, and community outreach by mentoring students and assisting with training, educational events, and community nights

  • Partner with Activities, Concierge, Guest Services, and Cultural teams to coordinate programming, events, guest logistics, and transportation while supporting cultural programming as scheduled

  • Maintain observatory equipment (telescope, optics, cameras, software), monitor environmental conditions for optimal viewing, and assist with astrophotography and image processing to enhance guest experiences

WHAT TO BRING
  • Successful candidate must possess legal work authorization in United States

  • The hospitality business functions seven (7) days a week, twenty-four (24) hours a day and scheduled days and times may vary based on need. Holidays and weekends availability is required.

  • Hawaii Driver's Abstract and PUC Certification is required for this role

  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 30 lbs., and push/pull as needed during shifts

  • Strong public speaking and storytelling skills, with the ability to engage and educate diverse audiences

  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn astronomy, Hawaiian wayfinding, and celestial navigation

  • Additional cultural or astronomy-related certifications are preferred
