Job Summary
The Work Study Student will support the Department of Sociology and Anthropology as a Research Assistant on the Statesboro Campus beginning Fall 2026. Federal Work Study Students in the Applied Anthropology Lab will be an integral part of a research- active environment and support the on-going work of this lab. As a vital member of the team, you will support ongoing research projects through data management, transcript cleaning, and literature reviews, while managing an interactive ArcGIS StoryMaps (with guidance and support; experience with ArcGIS is not required). This role provides extensive hands-on experience, including supervising student volunteers, collaborating on funded state and national research projects, and the potential to earn co-authorship on peer-reviewed manuscripts.
Student employees cannot work more than 1300 hours in a 12-consecutive month period.
Employment is contingent upon funding.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise, guide, and collaborate with student volunteers on daily lab operations
  • Maintain & Update Digital Media: Continue building, updating, and maintaining the interactive, ArcGIS StoryMap created by interns during Summer 2026 (no prior ArcGIS experience required¿guidance will be provided)
  • Clean interview and focus group transcripts and assist with ongoing qualitative data analysis
  • Assist with active research projects currently funded by major sponsors, including the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (GA DNR), the National Park Service (NPS), and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)
  • Conduct literature searches and synthesize key findings to support background research and grant deliverables

  • Up to 20 hours per week
  • Flexible with schedule of availability

Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
  • Must be enrolled in six or more undergraduate credit hours at Georgia Southern University.

Other Required Qualifications
  • Must be Federal Work eligible.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Education
  • Pursuing an Anthropology major or minor
  • Previous completion of Social Science coursework

Preferred Experience
  • Practice with Microsoft Word & Excel, Google docs & sheets

Proposed Salary
$12.00 per hour
This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.
