Clinical Laboratory Scientist - Per Diem

San Jose, CA

$45-$50 per hour, plus per diem differential

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Perform moderate and high-complexity laboratory testing in compliance with CLIA, OSHA, PPFA, Title X, and state regulations.
  • Execute all phases of clinical testing- pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness.
  • Conduct molecular assays, including DNA amplification and other specialty or research-based tests, as needed.
  • Verify that patient specimens are properly labeled, match worklists, and meet acceptance criteria.
  • Accurately enter, verify, and release results in the Laboratory Information System (LIS); ensure timely reporting to Planned Parenthood Mar Monte health centers and public health agencies.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for Quality Assurance, Quality Control, and Proficiency Testing in accordance with regulatory standards.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly instrument maintenance and cleaning; document all activities per SOPs.
  • Assist in maintaining adequate inventory of lab supplies, reagents, and materials; communicate restocking needs to lab leadership.
  • Respond to phone inquiries, look up test results, and answer clinic questions within the scope of knowledge or refer appropriately.
  • Follow established corrective action and documentation protocols for specimen handling and test performance issues.
  • Support pre- and post-analytical workflows as needed, including receiving specimens, labeling, sorting, and routing.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Manager to help orient and train new laboratory assistants on workflows and protocols.
  • Uphold a team-based, professional work environment and promote continuous quality improvement.
Non-Essential Duties
  • Works with/supervises volunteers/interns/trainees as appropriate.
  • Performs Lab Assistant duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Current California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license. ASCP certification preferred.
  • Two years of recent experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in a clinical laboratory setting.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Interface and communicate effectively with medical professionals, staff and the community.
  • Self-motivated, independent, and flexible with shift coverage (evenings/weekends as needed).
  • Capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance.
  • Commitment to teamwork, collaboration, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills; comfortable with LIS
