Internship After Effects Editor information

What is an internship After Effects editor?

An Internship After Effects Editor is a student or recent graduate who gains hands-on experience using Adobe After Effects to create, edit, and enhance motion graphics and visual effects for video projects. Working under the guidance of senior editors or motion designers, they assist with tasks such as compositing, animation, and video editing. This internship helps individuals develop their technical and creative skills, build a professional portfolio, and gain insight into the media or post-production industry.

What types of projects does an internship After Effects editor work on, and how do these tasks contribute to skill development?

As an Internship After Effects Editor, you can expect to work on a variety of projects such as creating motion graphics for social media, assisting with video compositing, and editing promotional videos or explainer animations. These tasks help you build technical proficiency in After Effects while also enhancing your ability to collaborate with creative teams like designers, producers, and animators. Working on real-world assignments sharpens your problem-solving skills and exposes you to industry-standard workflows, setting a strong foundation for future roles in video production or motion graphics.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an internship After Effects editor, and why are they important?

To succeed as an Internship After Effects Editor, you need a strong grasp of video editing principles, animation basics, and proficiency with Adobe After Effects, often supported by coursework or a portfolio. Familiarity with related tools like Adobe Premiere Pro and Photoshop, as well as understanding rendering workflows, is typically expected. Creativity, time management, and the ability to take feedback are essential soft skills that help interns excel in collaborative media environments. These skills ensure high-quality, engaging visual content is delivered efficiently and meets project objectives.

Job description

About the Job

We’re looking for a Social Video Editor / Motion Graphics Artist who lives inside a timeline, knows a great hook when they see one, and thrives on the challenge of making content that stops the scroll.

If you’re passionate about short-form social content, have a sharp eye for pacing, and believe that testing variations is just as important as the edit itself—keep reading.

What You’ll Do:

  • Edit and deliver high-quality short-form social videos at speed—because testing content means producing options, not just one cut
  • Create multiple variations of edits (different hooks, pacing, lengths) to support performance testing and internal creative reviews
  • Develop motion graphics that elevate content and feel native to the platform—not like a slideshow
  • Mix music, add sound effects, and handle audio in a way that makes people want to keep watching
  • Apply color correction and grading to ensure visual consistency and quality across deliverables
  • Support our photography and videography team by editing the content they capture—social posts, brand content, and beyond
  • Assist with ad production and web video projects as brand needs arise
  • Format and optimize content for every platform and aspect ratio—Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and wherever else we show up
  • Stay current on trends and platform behavior so our content always feels timely and relevant
  • Juggle multiple projects and deadlines without losing quality or momentum

What You Bring:

  • 1–3 years of video editing experience, with a strong focus on social and short-form content
  • Solid skills in Adobe After Effects and the broader Adobe suite (Premiere Pro, Audition, etc.)
  • A real understanding of what makes social content perform—hooks, pacing, variation—and how to test it
  • Experience with music mixing and sound design: you know how audio shapes a viewer’s experience
  • Working knowledge of color correction and grading
  • Comfortable taking a project from raw footage to final deliverable independently
  • Strong attention to detail—one frame off is still off
  • Good communicator who can take direction and give clear creative feedback
  • Experience creating content for TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and similar platforms
  • Comfortable collaborating across teams—whether that’s photo/video, brand, or 3D
