Job description

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a curious, results-driven Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) Manager to own the development, implementation, and optimization of AWS content visibility across AI-powered answer engines including ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Gemini.
As an AEO Manager for AWS Search Marketing, you will have the opportunity to improve how AI answer engines discover, interpret, and cite AWS content.
A successful candidate will be an advocate for AEO best practices and well-versed in what it takes to optimize a multi-thousand page, high-traffic marketing website for AI answer engine citation and visibility. This role requires a proven track record in content optimization, a deep understanding of how large language models retrieve and surface information, and the ability to contribute to governance and operational rigor in a fast-moving space - supporting the codification of best practices, recommending process improvements, and helping connect a central strategy team with distributed marketing teams. Strong analytical skills to develop strategies grounded in data, and interpersonal skills to influence across teams and drive adoption of AEO practices, are essential.
Key job responsibilities
Be a guardian for content quality and AEO best practices, continually raising the bar for machine-readable, citation-worthy content and AI answer engine discoverability.
Educating marketers and content authors on AEO best practices - including structured data, schema markup, and content formatting that optimizes for AI retrieval.
Partnering with marketers and content authors to develop and implement content strategies that grow AWS citation share across AI answer engines.
Providing support to technical and non-technical stakeholders to ensure new site features and/or content adheres to AEO best practices (e.g., machine-readable structure, third-party citation signals, entity disambiguation).
Supporting AEO governance by contributing to organizational standards across testing protocols, scaling criteria, best practice codification, measurement & reporting, and tooling.
Work with the AEO team to build a library of documentation and articles that educate the organization on AEO best practices and the evolving AI answer engine landscape.
Performing prompt-based research and data analysis (e.g., benchmark testing across AI models) to make the case for projects and their prioritization.
Monitoring and adapting to the rapidly evolving AI answer engine ecosystem, including changes in model behavior, retrieval mechanisms, and citation patterns.
A day in the life
AWS Search Marketing is focused on delivering a great search experience for AWS customers and prospective customers. We manage SEO, SEM, and AEO across search engines and AI answer engines like Google (including AI Overviews), Bing/Copilot, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Gemini. These are key sources of traffic and influence for how customers find the information they need by engaging with AWS. Our focus on the customer and applying best-in-class search and AI optimization practices results in a test-and-learn culture that seeks continual progression. We seek to accomplish this in a fun, collaborative environment that encourages sharing of knowledge, learnings, and wins!
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 4+ years of professional non-internship marketing experience
- Experience with Excel or Tableau (data manipulation, macros, charts and pivot tables)
- Understanding of how large language models retrieve, rank, and cite web content - including the role of structured data, entity recognition, and content authority signals
- Demonstrated experience in Answer Engine Optimization (AEO), including prompt-based benchmarking, AI citation analysis, and content optimization for conversational AI surfaces
- Knowledge of schema markup, structured data, and semantic HTML as they relate to AI content retrieval
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in multi-territory campaign management
- Experience in digital marketing and content production timelines and process
- Experience with AI crawler management (e.g., robots.txt directives for GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot) and machine-readable content architecture
- Proven application of AI tools and automation to scale AEO data collection, analysis, and content optimization workflows
- Familiarity with third-party citation dynamics
- Experience developing and maintaining AEO testing frameworks (multi-model prompt benchmarking, citation tracking across AI platforms)
